Just recently Ichiro achieved his 3000th MLB hit. Ichiro started the majors at the age of 27. It would have been interesting if Ichiro started in the majors at age 22 or 23. With an extra 4-5 years, I wonder if by now he would be threatening 4000 hits. He came out of the bat and had 242 hits in his rookie year.

By many he's the constant professional. Routinely puts hours in the batting cages.

What people routinely get wrong is that he speaks fluent English. He uses a translator because he doesn't want to make an error in speaking English with regards to the media. What people don't also know is,  he trash talks in English a lot. He is known for ripping into the National League during the All Star games. .

Congrats Ichiro on your 3000th hit!

Here is a gem when asked what his favorite American Expression is. :-D

He is very fun to watch. I bet he would have shattered many records had he started in MLB.

Check out his career spray chart on CBS Sports...cool graphic and doubt there are very many others who use(d) the whole field the way he does.  Great hitter who not only knew his game, but what his team needed from him day-in & day-out.  You really can't ask for much more in a teammate than that.

Ichiro is one of the best hitters to ever play the game. It is a shame he did not get to start in the US playing ball he might have gone after Pete Rose's record. He hit his first pinch hit homer run yesterday. He's not just a hitter as he is a outstanding fielder with a strong arm. He can run the bases, beat out infield hits, take the extra base and steal one easily. A sure HOFer when he retires.

Well, he played seven full seasons in Japan before coming over and in those 7 seasons, he had 1,242 hits.  On top of that, he averaged well over 100 fewer at bats over those seasons compared to his MLB seasons.

I think there is little question that he would have shattered Pete Roses hits record.  (As it is, he's nearly at 4300 combined hits is his career)

He was also a great fielder.  They used to chant "Don't go on Ichiro!" because he could throw people out at home from right field.  There was an old Mariner's commercial (can't find it now) where they focused on the catcher taking "pitches".  It pulls back and there's Ichiro in right field.  Reportedly, it wasn't TV "magic"; Ichiro was really throwing strikes from the outfield.
