Ive never got to see much of Daly playing.Watching him today at senior open I cant understand why he even bothers to play. His attitude is so bad and hes weakminded.Playing near cut line he doesnt even seem to try.He plays so fast with no concentration whatsoever. He seems like a real nice guy that atleast doesnt throw fits but I can see why hes wasted his talent.

I saw him up close at the the Canadian Open in 2014. Obviously you can judge a book by its cover, but he looked like a miserable old troll out there.

Yours in earnest, Jason.

You may be right on the attitude, but the fast play may not be related. He's always been a fast player by reputation.

He doesn't care.  never has.   but, who are we to judge?   The guy is out there playing golf for a living.  He plays it his own way and doesn't pretend to be something he's not.

he has made over $10 million in career earnings plus countless dollars in endorsements.  I think anyone here would kill to be able to do what he does.

Does he have the talent to have been a greater golfer (according to the record books) than he was?   Possibly.   but, maybe he's content as is.  I mean, he did win a PGA championship as well as a British Open.   so, his career record is certainly nothing to scoff at.

I think about 60% of tour players should pick up their pace pf play.

I have not checked, but it would not surprise me to find that Daly is at least in the top 35 of drawing fans to contests he is involved with.

He (somewhat) wasted his talent. But he mostly only hurt himself with his problems.

I've seen him play at Doral on multiple occasions and he is a fast player. At the time he was chain smoking and drank a 12 pack of diet coke during the round. The guy has more talent that most of us can ever dream of and he has had his demons for sure. His story at Crooked Stick got him on the map and his train wreck life and unwillingness to completely give up keeps us all tuned in.

if Daly ever wrote a letter to his younger self.... that would be something to read...

i think his talent  was way up there.... its just he didnt commit himself 100%

even in the early 2000's before and after his weight loss, he had several times in a tournament where he'd be under par in the first round and just have a bad hole and it was like the wheels just fell off and next thing you knew he'd miss the cut..

It is what it is

He's my role model in at least one thing - a complete backswing.

I use old Taylor Made clubs from eBay and golf shops.

Agreed

These players now a days who have the abbreviated backswing don't do it for me.

John Rahm, Spieth etc....  Any of those that don't come at least parallel have UGLY swings.  Reminds me of an amature on the muni links.

5 wins and 2 majors.  Not a bad career to be completely honest.

It makes you wonder, though, what he could have achieved if he'd had his head on straight.

I saw Daly once on the golf channel in giving tips on how to drive. I think his backswing is too extreme to be used as an example for the rest of us.

I'll have to take a look at Rahm and Spieth. I didn't think parallel was any big deal.

Rahm's back swing is much shorter than Spieth's.

Sure there always has to be a winner and Rahm win's this contest but the wrist bend with the chicken wing finishes is horrendous.  It wouldn't surprise me if Spieth and Daly finish with the same amount of majors when their respective career's are complete.

You're right about  Rahm. He does have an abbreviated back-swing.

Now quickly start a new thread before we get accused of going off topic.
