I agree. But at the same time a goalie playing the puck and lingering long enough to cause obstruction isn't cool either.

Not what happened here per se. But goalies take advantage all the time.

Yea but a goalie playing a live puck for a long period of time isn't actually a good thing for the defensive team. They're not really suited for board battles and they're fairly easy to take the puck from.

I imagine if the goalie on the boards forces the referee to blow the play dead it would be considered freezing the puck outside of the crease and a delay of game penalty.

Not what I'm saying. I'm saying some have a bad habit of playing the puck and then sticking around to obstruct.

They abuse the rule that protects them.

Oh ok yea that I get what you're saying now. That should be interference called against the goaltender then but we both know how the NHL enforces the rules.

And to be clear, that's not what Lundqvist did.

But goalies do it all the time, and it amounts to letting their D get an easy up and out.

I think goalies should generally be confined to the front of the net, and I'd be okay with the rules changing to allow them to be hit just like any other player when they're out of the crease and playing the puck. I think it would lead to more offense.

But that's not the way the rules are now. At all.

Don't look now Pen fans. Walking into Nationwide Arena tonight and the CBJ on a 10-game win streak. Unless the Habs are on the tube, I'm watching it.

And see, this would be the perfect time to switch your allegiance 100% to the local boys.  I'll pay for the avatar switch & name change ;-)

Seriously, seeing CBJ and the Flyers go on a 10 game streak this season has made me wonder if I've slipped into some bizarro-world.  10-straight in the NHL is tough.  And my (questionable) eyes just don't see CBJ's talent matching up to the top 50-60% of the league.  But the Flyers...Steve Mason et al...you kidding me?

Yeah...the Metro is crazy this season.

Ottawa Senators fan here!

They're playing better than last season, happy with the coach change this summer for Guy Boucher. Erik Karlsson will win his 3rd Norris trophy after this season, hands down! They will eliminate the Canadiens in the playoffs. :-D

Boom. CBJ 7 PIt 1. And now the Canadiens, fresh off a loss to Minnesota, play Columbus. Hopefully the Blue Jackets filled their quota against the Penguins.

Not too worried. Pens are missing their top two D, and Pouliot gave up 2 of the first three, and the first was on a suspect 4 minute minor.

Blue Jackets have played three fewer games than most people. We'll see how they do when their schedule compresses. I believe they play 16 times in March, for example?

And Bobrovsky has to stay healthy. And you know as soon as they lose a few Torts will blow his haystack.

CBS only managed 28 shots.

Ain't that the truth.

Obviously, you can't get too wrapped up in any single game. Still a bit nervous what my struggling club will do tonight.

Ha! At least I know whenever Ottawa plays Montreal, we have better odds of winning recently. :-P

You know it's getting bad when you feel a major sense of relief after a come-from-behind effort against Florida. ... Here in Ohio, we had the CBJ game on and when I saw a score of 2-1 Panthers on the bottom of the screen, mild cursing ensued.

It was nice for Montoya to get that win.

While the Habs were sweating out another razor-close result against Nashville, the CBJ is on the verge of making some history. The Jackets' 3-1 result against the Oilers was very impressive and runs them to 16-straight wins. Edmonton worked very hard last night, but Columbus worked just a bit harder. A successful trip to Washington tomorrow will tie the record held by the 92-93 Penguins.

LOL, I just watched that yesterday.  Pretty poor luck on the part of the Dallas guy to have the puck jump like that.  I picture professor Snape in the stands making it happen.  Lucky for him though, I guess they ultimately won in overtime anyway.

Yeah, it wasn't really anything that should be super embarrassing to him. It was bad luck.

That said, he could have done two different things:

  1. He could have shot the puck earlier. Goalie creases have snow buildup.
  2. He could have eaten the puck after he missed instead of trying to flick it back from below the goal line. That made no sense, but he was probably already embarrassed and panicking.

    • For someone with a very consistent swing speed and ball strike, upgrades may improve performance. For everyday golfers, probably not. I'm a rather odd player. I usually get best performance from basic pro or tour heads, but with lighter stock shaft from the model's standard driver set up. (Yes, current EXS is an exception.) When I get a full driver fitting, I usually try a couple of modest upgrade  (not super magic) shafts. Most of the time upgrade gives a couple of extra yards, or 10 yards less. Remember this about stock shafts: They are matched to a particular driver model to fit the type of player likely to adopt that model. Also, most OEMs offer a variety of stock shafts in their drivers. Test for which one works best. And, the final decider...
    • Uh, seeing you're having trouble with hit-and-miss performance from inherited clubs... Get Fitted! IF the 910H pair don't work, swap them out. Also, only two degrees separation in loft is not much. You might consider a 4W (much more reliable than a 3W) plus hybrid. This would give more distance separation than two Hs. For hybrid, get one you can hit... Maybe a more benevolent 4H. Quite often I try to brand match my bridge clubs (FWs and Hs), and my irons and wedges... but not always. Whatever works!
    • Like others have said, get fitted. Since 2011, I have played some combination of 4W + 7W. I had a Cobra 3H and 4H a couple of years back, and would swap out the 7W for a 3H in cold months (keep out of cold wind, and rough thinner for wayward drives.) The 7W matched up with yardage often with 3H; the current 4H goes almost as long as 7W, but has a lower trajectory. 4H also bumped out 4i in last bag redo; I learned to hit stinger with 4H so that's my driving iron on tight holes with shallow landing area. Again, a side-by-side test will tell you which way to go. If 5W or 3H is meh, keep the 7W. Also, are you looking to replace the 7W with a 5W or 3H, or add a second bridge club (5W or 3H) to your bag?
    • Makes sense and aligns with other literature. Static stretching, especially for longer durations, can impede performance in strength and power activities. I would not want to do like hamstring, quad, and calf stretches then go immediately sprint. To me that sounds like a terrible Idea. I would rather start off walking, then jogging, then running, then ramp up to sprinting.  To me, static stretching isn't even a warmup activity. I like the term warmup; you want to get some exertion going before the activity.      a { text-decoration: none; color: #464feb; } tr th, tr td { border: 1px solid #e6e6e6; } tr th { background-color: #f5f5f5; }
    • Going to Florida for the usual February golf trip, and with our current weather, that date won't get here soon enough. Heading to Augusta GA for the Tuesday Master's practice round, will definitely get some golf in while I'm in the area for a few days. Hope to be able to catch up with @coachjimsc if he's around. Then it's back to Scotland first of July.  Playing 7 new courses, can't wait for that.  Then somewhere after that is the Rhode Island CC Member-Guest and then my normal October golf trip to Myrtle Beach.
