I've often wondered what effect caffeine may have on golfers as it does physioligically alter our bodies by increasing muscle tightness and increasing cortisol. It is interesting to see Phil embrace it. I use the bulletproof oil at times as well, good stuff.

I drink coffee like it's going out of style. Most of the time, it's not a big issue. The exceptions are early morning rounds where I'm driving a distance and it's hot. In those circumstances, it can be a bit too much and I'm too wound up when I get to the course. The first few holes can be a mess, before things even out.

Since recognizing that pattern, I'll try to switch over to straight water by the time I hop in the car.

hmmm, interesting post on Phil's coffee habits.  I drink far too much, but now considering the alleged immune system benefits, maybe its not so bad, plus gives me a weak, justifiable  excuse for my coffee drinking habits.

I am a French press guy as well. I let my coffee steep about four minutes and push grounds down then let another few minutes pass for it to settle. 

 I also have a Cuisinart Grind and Brew. It's about 12 years old now and although it can be a pain to clean at times it is an awesome machine. Still grinds the beans perfectly and throws them down into basket to brew. I use the Grind and Brew on weekends or when have company over and I use the French Press at work.

My french press routine is identical to yours. My stainless steel one should last my entire lifetime. I have a manual burr grinder as well that is built to last. My morning coffee ritual is quite enjoyable.

Anyone have any experience with stuff like this? My wife/daughter love the occasional trip to Starbucks, but mostly make coffee at home and take out with them.

I had crapiccino maker a few years ago. It was a pain to clean up and the finely ground espresso beans got everywhere. I don't know much about the Ninja.

I'm surprised nobody's mentioned cold-brewing coffee...

Dump some ground coffee in a big jug with a filter and plug on the bottom, put water in there, sit overnight, drain into a carafe in the morning. One 12-oz can of ground coffee will last me 2 weeks and I drink a LOT of coffee. The carafe goes in the fridge and is good for a long time. I drink a LOT of coffee and it lasts me 2 weeks.

It's exceptionally strong. I like very strong coffee but I dilute this stuff down about 1:4 (1 coffee to 4 water).

Virtually no acid, which is the primary part of why coffee messes up your teeth. 

I drink iced coffee almost exclusively which makes this even easier, but my parents also have one and they heat it up in the microwave. No "sitting coffee pot old coffee" taste either from reheating. And it doesn't go stale even in the fridge 2 weeks later.

It's called a coffee Toddy (name brand). I've been using it for 4+ years now.

It's a different flavor without the acid, but typically it makes inexpensive "bad" coffee taste better than standard brewing. I use walmart columbian coffee and it make it taste good enough for me (I wouldn't touch the stuff standard brewed though).

if someone wants pure expresso, I find the tiny makers as found in Italy are pretty good. I have seen them for sale at some grocers and CVS . When Iived in Italy, I had one that was a tiny two tiered thing that you inverted once the water started steaming.

We bought one of the super automatic  machines for Christmas  for each other last year.  It's probably  paid for itself multiple times this year, in just the savings of buying whole bean vs k cups.

    • I know you guys were discussing this like a year ago. But, ironically I just had this discussion with my brother-in-law. We literally just did one of these. I'd always used the "Slow-Cook, Rest, and Sear" Method. But my bother-in-law was convinced the "5-Min/lb, 500 degree" method was the way. So, we gave it a go. I have to say it came out great.  I have a 25 year old, electric oven, GE brand... Not sure if that matters, but it came out great. ... Of course we stressed that nobody was to open the oven.   I don't make these all that often so, I'm not sure if I can fully recommend one method or the other, because without doing a Pepsi Challenge, I'd say both ways come out great. 👍😁👍
