One today caused by a mental error.  Par 5, I was pin high on the fringe in three.  Down hill breaking putt, I hit it too hard and missed the return putt.   UGH

1 3 putt in 4 of my last 5 rounds

I consider putting a strength........................3-putt avoidance also depends on the course you play!   With that said......I apologize because I don't have definitive stats....on 3-putts.....per course.   I do know this....I can play 72 holes without a 3-putt......................."depending on the course"..... This is a hard question to answer accurately!!!   On my home course.........YES!!!!!  I can play a 72 hole tourney...and never 3-putt.....maybe...........

it happens though.......................................

3 today, but a fair number of one-putts so it didn't feel as bad as it usually does

I had one today.   I only played 9.  It was a practice round.  I'm still working on my short pitch shots and chipping.  I played two balls after my tee shot.   9th hole; I get out of the trap and leave myself about a 30 foot left to right with about 5% slope.   The crowd was watching...(not really but I felt like it) and I missed my line and pushed the putt right.   It was ugly.   My second putt was short and I bowed my head and slowly finished.   Nobody was watching....Nobody.  I choked under pressure.

I had two yesterday.  Both were of the "tap and hope" variety...above the hole on a fairly steep slope.  The kind that either drop or wander off into two-more land.

In der bag:
Cleveland Hi-Bore driver, Maltby 5 wood, Maltby hybrid, Maltby irons and wedges (23 to 50) Vokey 59/07, Cleveland Niblick (LH-42), and a Maltby mallet putter.                                                                                                                                                 "When the going gets tough...it's tough to get going."

I had four last Tuesday, which is rare for me. It was a new course and slow greens because they didn't mow to give them a rest. First was a 40 footer I left well short. Second was a 25 footer downhill that I left short. Third was a downhiller that I went too far. Last one was and uphill two-tier putt that I went past. All were speed control issues

By the second nine, I had dialed it in and had two birdies and an up and down.

I've had 2 in the last four rounds.  0 in the last two.   I've been more focused on distance and I believe it has helped.

I had 3 3-putts in my last round. Two of them were from about 30 feet, hit the first putt about 6 feet past. Third time was about 20 feet with a hard right-to-left break, underread it and missed a 4 footer.

don't know if I should focus on getting better lags or holing better from 4-6 feet. I still feel like I'd rather give putts a chance than lag them short..

Both.  Lag closer, and make more shorter ones, but lagging closer might be more important.  3-putts from 30 feet should be reasonably rare, from 20 feet should be really rare.  If you're trying to hit a putt 3 feet past the hole, and you hit it 3 feet longer than you intend, you have a tough second.  If you're trying to die the ball into the hole, and you're 3 feet long, you have a very makeable 3-footer.  Once you get past a certain distance, maybe 12 to 15 feet, your speed goal should be at the hole, not past it.
