http://www.pga.com/news/golf-buzz/woman-makes-hole-in-one-during-first-golf-lesson

Quote

How long have you playing golf? Have you made a hole-in-one? If so, how long were you playing before that ace came?

I'll bet you it didn't come as quickly as this woman's from England.

Golf Digest stumbled upon a video posted to YouTube on Nov. 16, showing a lady named Becky Marsh -- during her "first ever golf lesson," the video claims -- making a hole-in-one on a 60-yard, par-3 at the Academy Course at Kendleshire Golf Club in Bristol, England.

The club of choice? A 7-iron. And, as if you weren't already jealous enough that a lady playing for the first time did something you probably never have that carries 12,500-to-1 odds, it was even caught on video.

Dammit. :-P

Haha I know you said you haven't gotten a hole-in-one yourself (neither have I; the absolutely closest I got once was about 6" back when I was a horrible golfer) but I'm sure you can be happy for her. If all of us got bit by the golf bug in some way, shape, or form imagine how big the golf bug bite is for this lady! :-)

@iacas have you ever holed out from ~60 yards or further? I'm sure you have?

(but again... I have not... lol. Best I've done it holing out from about 20 yards from a bump and run.)

I'm very happy for her!

I almost ended my first post with just the word "Bitch!" but I feared that would be taken incorrectly. I would have meant it like I'd say "jerk" to a buddy who won a game of BINGO or bested me at table tennis or something.

Very happy for her. Nobody else getting a HIO affects my chances. :-)

Yes. I think my longest is about 154.

During a playing lesson. :-)

Life is just not fair, but like I always say, I've had quite a few Hi1s, but the greens keeper put the hole in the wrong spot. ;-)

Wait a minute, it's a lesson right? There are lots of balls around her, presumably for hitting... does it even count as a hole in one?

Still has to be pretty exciting for her though.

Yeah, truth be told, it was a long pitch holed, after many pitches.

I have a friend who I have known since child hood. He had never golf before, but since I was going he decided to tag along. When we got to the course, they wouldn't let him ride unless he had his own clubs. No problem, we just threw my wife's bag in the cart and headed for the first tee.

While waiting, I gave him a few pointers on the grip and swing. The first hole was a 165 yard par 3.

He ace it. :-O Just walked up, hit the ball, and watched roll into the hole. He shot 128 on the other 17 holes for a 129.

One of my friends took his wife out golfing on a par 3 course and it was her first time golfing and well you guessed it, she got a hole in one on her first swing, on the first hole.

She always tells the story when he is telling any golf stories to trump him and it still makes his blood boil.

He has never taken her golfing since.  Too funny!

Actually I didn't say much other than the congradulatory stuff. Pretty sure I had one of my better "stunned-wth" looks on my face. The two guys we golfed with thought he was just real good golfer.

However, his reality set in on the next hole. It was about the 3rd or 4th hole when he figured out just how lucky he was. Of course the three of us had to explain the consequences of an ace, and the 19th hole to him.

To this day he has his hio score card, ball, and the course's award paper work hanging in his den.

Saw that on golfdigest.com.  Great story and good for her.  There's a happy, new golfer for LIFE!

Hole in one for me?  Not yet.  A couple of years ago, I witnessed THREE holes in one in a few weeks' time.  They were so close to me I thought, 'mine is coming next.' No such luck ... yet!  Maybe next season.

    • Day 47: simulator day! Played St. Andrew’s and shot a +1. Not bad, especially with having to putt at this simulator set up. Had about 5 minutes at the end to work on some feels as well.
    • I think you're saying it's preposterous to think that the areas on this club are anything like what's shown here: 30mm toward the toe or heel loses only 5% distance? Highly, highly doubtful. So a guy who hits the ball there and normally hits the ball about 250… will hit it instead about 238. By missing the sweet spot by about 1.2 inches? Highly, highly doubtful. Heck, the high heel barely gets into the red, and orange is only "up to" 10%! @M2R, I've never heard of "Ask Golf Nut" but I'm dubious of his claims in the video and really, really dubious of what's on his site: "Why AskGolfNut Is the Most Trusted Data-Driven Golf Resource". Hmmmmmm.

    • So the question was posed today by some of my friends.  Is a pitch mark the same as a divot?  I thought NO, but they argued if your ball lands in another player's divot (made by club during a swing) this was the same as a pitch mark, i.e. the ball mark made when the ball lands
