12/5 - Mirror work at the gym. Focused on transition again. It snowed today, so Friday's round may have been the last outdoor round this year.

Day 5; a little combo chipping, pitching, and putting practice for me today.

The idea was to chip and/or pitch the ball to my one putt range. At 4-5 feet I usually make those putts more so than not. Especially the straight ones :-P To get to this one putt range required a good green read, a correct club selection, a correct address position,  a decent stroke, and hitting my chosen land area. Of the 70 balls I hit, 8 of them did require me to putt.

Since it was early, I had the chipping/pitching green to myself. This green has 6 mini pins on it, which meant I had quite a few different reads, and landing areas to deal with.

12/06: 20 minutes, including reviewing past lessons. Worked on A3 to A4 (major piece from last lesson), and slow move to A6 (reviewed past notes on body alignments at A6). 20 minutes total. At the top, reviewed hand depth and wrist position. Then slow to A6, where shoulders mostly flat and pointing down target line, hips open a bit.

Guess I did not hit the submit button properly for day 5 yesterday. My post was waiting for me. Oh well. :~(

Day 6. We played 18 holes to day. Nothing real good, and nothing real bad. Shot an 84 which was 4 strokes above my scoring goal. 2 strokes out of my comfort zone. Lost a drive left, and by the time I was done with that par 4 hole I am writing down a snow man 8. Pretty sure I lost my balance during my driver swing on that one by swinging too hard. Have not had an 8 in a long , long time.

12/7: Range for about an hour. Worked on applying my "new" backswing that I've been working on. Always tricky to move from mirror work to real swings for me. From reviews of video at the range, I think I did better keeping left shoulder down, but wrist was cupping, and I was getting steep.

    • Day 11: did mirror work for a while. Worked on the same stuff.
    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.
    • Day 115 12-5 Skills work tonight. Mostly just trying to be more aware of the shaft and where it's at. Hit foam golf balls.
    • Day 25 (5 Dec 25) - total rain day, worked on tempo and distance control.
    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
