Ever buy like 5 Used individual irons of different brands from like 2nd swing and return in like 2/3 weeks? Just pay the shipping fee and make sure the condition doesn't get worse. Would stores have an issue?

I must admit, the thought never occurred to me. There are many retailers who will set you up with several 5-irons and a bucket at the range.  "Buying" several irons with no intention of actually keeping them is dishonest.

Considering golf stores all have hitting areas and demos ... no.  Why would I?

I have thought about it - but never done it.  I don't think it's dishonest at all - I can't speak for 2nd Swing but I highly doubt they'd mind.  They have a 14 day return policy on used clubs bought on-line.  30 days for store credit.

The reason I've never done it is really just because it's kind of a pain to return clubs..and since we're talking about used irons - the ones I end up ordering might be slightly different - different shaft, different grips, different mfg revision, etc, than the one I tried.

So what I usually do is buy a whole set of used irons . .try them out and, if I don't like them, send them back and try something else.  Except, in 3 times of doing this, I never send them back . .I have always liked the clubs and just kept them.  Even the one set I ended up not liking . .it took me a whole year to come to that conclusion, lol.

I've purchased old demo irons from a store that had them in the used rack. I pickup up a Mizuno MP 57, 58, 60 for $5 each. I have one at my gym for mirror work. One in the garage for swings while I grill. And one at my cottage for drill work. All 6 irons.

I also used them to determine if I like them. I purchased an MP-57 set at that time and played it for a couple of years. It also helped me evaluate the shafts as they were different types.

I did it once several years ago. I was back in Texas with no clubs, my broker, and nephew wanted to play. My nephew drove me all over to different places near the Ft Worth area. I'd find a club or two at each place. Those clubs are probably still in someone's closet back there.

Fast forward to another time I was back there with out my clubs. Instead of driving all over the place looking for clubs, I had my nephew just take me to a nearby Sports Academy where I purchased a complete set of clubs and bag really cheap. Since my nephew's daughter wanted to play golf, I purchased a ladies set of clubs, and gave them to her when I was done with them. A win, win situation for both of us.

I don't really understand this post.  At first it sounded like the OP just wanted to purchase one club from a set to try and give him an idea of the clubs. No return, just buy one club. I attempted to do just that with the new Wilson Staff Tour 100's but couldn't find anyplace to sell me just the 5 iron until one of the guys at PGA Tour Store offered to purchase one for me. After looking at the clubs I finally decided I didn't really want the new clubs. But I think this would go a long way if OEM's or retailers would offer this, just like they sell woods and wedges. I would pay $125, or around that, for a single new iron.

Now the idea of "buying" anything with the intention of returning after use is just plain wrong. I once new a guy from work who used to do that with laptops. He would take a vacation with his new, latest laptop. Once the vacation ended he returned for a refund. And the guy acted as if he had every right to do this and didn't see it as dishonest. What a jerk. It's people like that just get under my skin. We wouldn't have a return policy if everyone did this.

The closest thing I did to this was to buy a demonstrator 6i for the X20 Tour model; I already owned the full set, and used the demo 6i for testing out different re-shaft options.

I would do a side-by-side with the set's 6i with PX 5.0 shaft, and the demo 6i with different other shafts. Tried them on the range, and out on the course.

Are you testing these out just for funsies, or are you thinking about buying them? Are you taking notes? How old an iron would you buy for this? I'm not sure what  you're trying to accomplish.

    • For someone with a very consistent swing speed and ball strike, upgrades may improve performance. For everyday golfers, probably not. I'm a rather odd player. I usually get best performance from basic pro or tour heads, but with lighter stock shaft from the model's standard driver set up. (Yes, current EXS is an exception.) When I get a full driver fitting, I usually try a couple of modest upgrade  (not super magic) shafts. Most of the time upgrade gives a couple of extra yards, or 10 yards less. Remember this about stock shafts: They are matched to a particular driver model to fit the type of player likely to adopt that model. Also, most OEMs offer a variety of stock shafts in their drivers. Test for which one works best. And, the final decider...
    • Uh, seeing you're having trouble with hit-and-miss performance from inherited clubs... Get Fitted! IF the 910H pair don't work, swap them out. Also, only two degrees separation in loft is not much. You might consider a 4W (much more reliable than a 3W) plus hybrid. This would give more distance separation than two Hs. For hybrid, get one you can hit... Maybe a more benevolent 4H. Quite often I try to brand match my bridge clubs (FWs and Hs), and my irons and wedges... but not always. Whatever works!
    • Like others have said, get fitted. Since 2011, I have played some combination of 4W + 7W. I had a Cobra 3H and 4H a couple of years back, and would swap out the 7W for a 3H in cold months (keep out of cold wind, and rough thinner for wayward drives.) The 7W matched up with yardage often with 3H; the current 4H goes almost as long as 7W, but has a lower trajectory. 4H also bumped out 4i in last bag redo; I learned to hit stinger with 4H so that's my driving iron on tight holes with shallow landing area. Again, a side-by-side test will tell you which way to go. If 5W or 3H is meh, keep the 7W. Also, are you looking to replace the 7W with a 5W or 3H, or add a second bridge club (5W or 3H) to your bag?
    • Makes sense and aligns with other literature. Static stretching, especially for longer durations, can impede performance in strength and power activities. I would not want to do like hamstring, quad, and calf stretches then go immediately sprint. To me that sounds like a terrible Idea. I would rather start off walking, then jogging, then running, then ramp up to sprinting.  To me, static stretching isn't even a warmup activity. I like the term warmup; you want to get some exertion going before the activity.      a { text-decoration: none; color: #464feb; } tr th, tr td { border: 1px solid #e6e6e6; } tr th { background-color: #f5f5f5; }
    • Going to Florida for the usual February golf trip, and with our current weather, that date won't get here soon enough. Heading to Augusta GA for the Tuesday Master's practice round, will definitely get some golf in while I'm in the area for a few days. Hope to be able to catch up with @coachjimsc if he's around. Then it's back to Scotland first of July.  Playing 7 new courses, can't wait for that.  Then somewhere after that is the Rhode Island CC Member-Guest and then my normal October golf trip to Myrtle Beach.
