2/19: Busy day and concert this evening. 10 quick minutes of slow swings and full shots with my 56W. Focus on slow swings was balance, focus during full shot was on hitting the shot shape I wanted.

2/20 - 30 mins of pitching down office hallway with whiffle balls; focus was on square face at impact to produce straight trajectory (without hitting hallway walls).

I plan to play 9 holes with Noah (my 9yo) on Wednesday to test out the shoulder. I was practicing some 30-50yd pitches last week and my shoulder didn't like it very much, but that was hitting balls in succession. I'm hoping that the time between 1/2-full swings (hitting a couple then chipping/putting over a 5-10 mins window) will be more agreeable.

2/21: About an hour in the front yard today with my sand wedge. Tried some slow swings for a bit, but struggled to get comfortable. My brain wanted to check (and work on) too many things. Head movement felt like it was more than usual so I slowed-down and re-focused on that.

It felt like my head was moving a foot forward (down the target line) on the downswing and like my whole body was getting way out in front of the ball. Going in slow motion it seemed obvious that in order to have any chance of starting the ball where I was aiming, I had to pull my arms down, in, and across my body as I turned my shoulders...hello Big Fade and Bad Slice, nice to see you gents again.

Weight seemed off and I noticed it felt like I wasn't/couldn't extend my left leg and clear my hips, and that extension with the club was happening way to late (like 3-o'clock or so), yada, yada. Definitely need to work on getting video soon since who knows what I was really doing and why(?) (although, I'm sure I can just review old footage since my swing never changes much ;-)).

Either way, not to worried about it. I could still hit a draw and wasn't "stuck" in fade-mode or anything. If it's real, it's (likely) just what I've always done. I'm used to fading the ball and account for it in my shot zones, now. Even when playing with plastic golf balls and 5mph wind gusts. :-P

2/23 - played 9 with my 9yo son

44 (+9):  1 Par, 7 bogey, 1 double.  First two holes sucked but what do I expect for the first time out in 3 months only 3 weeks out from shoulder surgery.

A couple of bombed (for me) drives, 1st drive was lost ball. Chipping was mediocre and putting was so-so with no 3putts; only 1 GIR, but 6 other nGIR's.

Not my best round, but again, I'm happy to knock the cobwebs off.

    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.
    • Day 115 12-5 Skills work tonight. Mostly just trying to be more aware of the shaft and where it's at. Hit foam golf balls.
    • Day 25 (5 Dec 25) - total rain day, worked on tempo and distance control.
    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
