20 min. Sklz swing trainer, 7 iron, driver

stop at top, pump, step thru and full swings

all felt very good.

focus for tomorrow on the range: feel the swing when hitting a ball and measure distance with focus on lag.

focus for 18 holes with El Alemán: hit 10 of 13 fairways and play at least bogie, bogie, par every three holes.

3/25: Played 18 today. 3-man skins and my buddy kept score, so I'm not sure what I ended up with score-wise. Gave away a few carry-over holes by missing easy par putts, but otherwise a pretty decent day (and no money lost ;-)).

25/3/17 - Another range and short game session. Staying back at my parents' today for Mother's Day so was at a very different course with muddy lies and not much grass - really made me work the bounce!

Currently focusing on: Key 4 - shorter backswing.

What's in the bag: Callaway X2 Hot Driver, Titleist 915F 3 wood, X2 Hot 3 Hybrid, 3, 5-AW Apex Pro irons, 54*, 58* Cleveland RTX, Odyssey Versa 1 Putter

26/3/17 - last bit of preparation for the next few days of golf. Putting indoors with the metronome and really focusing on start line. Need to feel like I rock my shoulders and push my hands a little outwards, but the ball is rolling well (at least, on the mat...). Fingers crossed I can putt like this from inside 10 feet tomorrow!

Currently focusing on: Key 4 - shorter backswing.

3/25 in addition to my five daily minutes on backyard swings went to the range and hit about 45 balls.

sw gw 9 8 7 6 5 23 hybrid

Dispersion was good good shots on the line small misses staying right.  Hit one weird 8 that missed twenty yards left let go of club haha. Hit a couple small draws that fell left but nothing to get concerned about

really I enjoyed my 5 the most I was very aware of not getting ahead of it as I am prone to on longer shots and keeping a bit more patient and stable coming down and through.  Really hit a couple that came off well with good height.  I can tend to hit a bit too low on longer shots sometimes and that can be bad.

The kids next to me were excited I was leaving half a large bucket...Pay it forward-no need to grind.

i don't range much so if it looks like it's working I leave.

3/26: Played 18 today and shot a 91. Lots of pars and doubles. Took a while to get the driver working right and I seemed to pay for it every time. Still trying to hit a push draw on the course because they're working great on the range. Everything was still mostly going straight or straight-fading...until the 16th hole. Dogleg left and I hit a drive up the hill that went a little too far left. I had about 190 to the pin with a big oak tree in the way. Lined up just right of the tree and hit a beautiful, high push-draw with my 3-iron that curved around the tree and landed on the front of the green and rolled out to about 30 feet away, almost pin-high. 3-putted for bogey from there, but it didn't matter, I was elated that a shot had actually started right and curved back like I intended.

I hit about 10 shots on the range after the round just for fun. Perfect, high-draws with my 7-iron. Every shot. :-P

3/27: Range time to focus on putting it all together to conquer my steepness. Lots of slow swings on video. I did successful swings earlier in the month on video where I basically dribbled the ball off the mat. Trying today to speed that up to 50yd or 100yd shots. No success yet, as I think I may have even become steeper than I started last year! Ugh. Back at it this week with nice weather. Might play Wednesday.

3/27: Continued working path / contact 30 minutes, then went to a different course to work on the swing with 400+ yard par 4's (417, 459, 406, 445, 461, 473) and longer par 3's (180, 197, 222).  Getting ready to play an event at a 151 slope course next month.  Hit some pretty solid shots, a few cuts I wasn't happy with, and several draws that put me in fair position.  Overall, a 6 maybe 7 tops.  Still have a month.

3/27: Took things a bit easy tonight. Just 10 minutes or so hitting easy pushes/push-draws with my pitching wedge and plastic balls. I'm playing in a tournament for the first time in a couple weeks...gonna re-read the tournament prep section of LSW tonight and formulate a plan. ;-)

    • Hitting some good shots on my golf trip. It's good I can tell when I hit better shots the way I want to swing the ball versus when I use an older swing. Shockingly, the short game has been at worst, not harmful to my game. I am using similar feels to the full swing, in that I try to get my hands down. I've been nipping the ball clean off the turf.
    • I was laid off two months ago. Good severance, a 90 day layoff announcement regulation the company wanted to avoid so technically I'm still on the payroll for a few weeks, and a bunch of banked PTO, so I'm in a great spot and working on a startup idea I've been batting around with my brother for a while. That means I've got time to get to the gym! I'm at like 60-75 minutes 5x a week of strength training, and either a run or a bunch of time playing soccer or tennis with my daughter on the weekends. Stronger than I've been in forever. Up ~5 pounds of (noticeable!) muscle!

    • A bit of background. The Southern California Golf Association (SCGA) runs an annual event known as "Team Play." It is a wildly popular match play competition where Men's Clubs across the region put together teams of 20+ golfers together to compete against other clubs in a 16 vs. 16 match. In any given year, approximately 80-100 clubs will participate. Each club is grouped into "pods" of 4, and will play 6 total matches - one home and one away match against the other 3 clubs. The winning club from each pod advances to the Team Play Playoffs - a single elimination format - until a winner is crowned.  Antelope Valley Country Club just advanced to the championship match for the 3rd consecutive year. They won the championship in both 2022 and 2023.  Based on my review of the match history from the past 3 years (linked below), they have won 21 consecutive team matches. Keep in mind, these are handicapped matches, so this is not just a case where a group of sticks bands together to dominate the poor amateurs other SoCal clubs. Even if these guys are grinders who never quit, play their best under pressure and routinely putt the lights out, the law of averages still say that a streak of that nature is mathematically impossible.  Is there any plausible explanation beyond institutionalized sandbagging throughout the club?
