I'm baffled.

So, I've had two practice sessions and three rounds with my new interlocking grip. Each has shared a common characteristic. I'll hit a lot of nice shots, but somewhere in the middle it goes straight off the rails. Wednesday saw a round go 42-53 with two holes contributing 18 strokes.

At the range last night, it was particularly stark. Working short to long, PW, 9I and 7I were delightful. I was hitting the 7I so well, I got cheeky and started trying to draw it and with good success. Then came the 5I and 10 straight shanks. Then 5W and got low, weak balls to the left. Finally went driver and hit most of them down the middle. With the last three balls, I took a breath and grabbed the 5W again. Striped them as nice as you like.

My mishits now come with no warning and in bunches. The grip change has definitely unearthed something weird. I can't figure it out yet.

That is interesting. I use interlock grip, tried what i thought was a Vardon a few times and felt odd but maybe I will try again. I do like the interlocking grip however.

I can agree with this for the most part. I used an interlocking when I was young. I have also experimented with a double overlap like Furyk. It feels funky, but with practice it could work.

I either use the interlock or put all ten fingers in the grip

Today trying some wedge shots from ball above my feet from about 80 yards out and rather than ten fingered I used intermeshing and over lap and was able to control my distance very well

I started with the ten-finger grip, then the interlock grip, then to the Vardon grip, recently I've gone back to the interlock, not because Tiger or Jack use(d) it. I feel I can control the club better. An old-timer down at my home course uses a hybrid of both, its not really an interlock and not really an overlap. He kind of tucks his little finger of his right hand in between his index and middle finger of his left hand. He calls it an "overlocking grip".

I had to go away from the interlock again this year. After not using it for many years, I tried returning to it this spring.  But i just not have a sense for where the club head is using it. So i basically use a 9.5 finger grip where the pinky of my right hand is just riding about half way up the side of my left index finger. It is comfortable and for me anyway, I can tell where the club is.

Funny that I found this thread.  I am in the process of going back to overlap.  With my driver and for chipping I always stayed with overlap.  Driving, interlock killed my pinkie and for chipping, I couldn't get used to it.

Irons though, I changed because I felt I needed the hands more unified.

So now, years later,  my fingers hurt a bit and the pain makes me lose my grip and regrip sometimes.  I hit some wedges at work on the GC2 and it was like welcoming an old friend.

Yesterday was my first time outside, at a demo day and I was all over the place.  Today I went back to the grass range and hit about 100 balls, mostly irons to figure it out.  The big thing I like, aside from the lack of pain is how powerful it feels and how much easier it is to hit a push draw.

Interlock would give me the high rights but overlap seems to give me more solid shots.  So I left the range feeling confident with the grip change...who h is nice.

So, give yourself a break, already! A grip change is major. One time that Tiger changed his swing it took him two years to get it down. Are you like Tiger? I'm guessing no!

Like the positives that it gives you, and work on the negatives. If the overall effect is positive, run with that. A grip change, while major, is not a panacea.

It's finally starting to come around. These past few weeks I've finally started to locate where my club face actually is at the bottom of the swing. Managed two S---k-less rounds this weekend.

Probably shortly after I posted the above, I slipped the grip to an overlap and have become much more comfortable with it. Still not scoring quite how I'd like, but it's on the mend and I still hold out hopes of playing in my club championship in August.
