I would say 25% of the drivers, fairway woods and hybrids have mid to oversized grips on them. I wonder why is that? Some of these grips I swear are for people who are 10 feet tall, they are really oversize, almost a children's tennis racquet. I wonder why.

I have small hands, and now use standard grips. But I used mid to 1 oversize for a long time. I was told that the larger grips often caused or contributed to a slight push bal flight. I was fighting a hook and I think they helped. Plus they feel comfortable to older hands might prevent a stranglehold grip pressure, I guess. Anyway, a pro friend said, no, you need standard grips and we will work on the hook. I've used standard since. _Marv

I don't think grip size and height are related.  I've noticed the same thing too...seems like I see it more on the lower tiered clubs.

Guy came in our place last night with some knockoffs and the grips were the size of my leg..  He had no idea either....

A lot of people these days seem to be drifting towards larger grips.  I have a couple of buddies, very good players, who swear by them.

Why?  I don't know.  But they kick my butt so I can't really argue with them...

I'll have to take a closer look at the clubs on the shelf at the golf shops. I hadn't noticed anything but standard grips on the men's clubs.

Now for replacement grips, I see a lot of midsize and jumbo in the bins.

Focus, connect and follow through!

Maybe thick grip on putter trend seeping into full swing clubs? Heck if I know. Do thick grips make it harder to install via air compressor?

The answer lies in Roswell, NM.  Some players today, are truly out of this world.

I use midsize grips because I think they are more comfortable. I think with standard size grips there is to much air/space between my hands and the grip which can cause inconsistencies for me (feeling the club move through impact). With the midsize I hold the club better (not tighter) and I don't feel the club moving as much with my fairway woods. I am only 5' 8 so I don't think it has to do with hand size.

    • Playing irons only may lead to some short-term gains, but you'll want to at least practice with the driver if you ultimately have some decently good goals.
    • He plays from 68.3 / 124.  A combo tee setup of normal mens and seniors.   I play from 69.7/127.   He left after taking a triple on 14 and then leaving.  Which plays to what I think his plan is,   He doesn’t stroke on 14 but would have to take bogey for non completed holes on the way in.   Maybe that’s giving him too much credit, but he found a way to add 4 shots to his score over three holes so….     I looked up his last 20 rounds in GHIN and he has a lot of rounds at easier courses (rating and slope) that are higher than his normal rounds at home.   Since I mostly have his front nine score during the match (36) to go on, he has three nine hole scores at our course posted that are 41-43. I wrote the whole thing up to the head of our golf association who runs all the tournaments.  Our pro is not involved officially in the tournaments because the golf associations are separate from the club.   He’s pretty well known for this, however I was pretty shocked at how well he played carrying a 15.   I think eventually they will do something, a lot of people have complained.  The golf association threw someone out a couple of years ago and it was a three month situation where the guy retaliated.  They probably are hesitant to go thru anything like that again.  That is a rather crazy story I might post about later.
