I think it would be cool to get an exemption into the Masters if you won the individual at the East Lake Cup. Thoughts.

I disagree. There are a select few amateurs that get in for much more noble feats than winning the east lake cup. The east lake cup doesn’t even have the best golfers at the college age level.

Considering the fact that I'm an avid golfer who has never so much as heard of the East Lake Cup, it is nowhere near prestigious enough to warrant an invitation to The Masters. The Masters is for the golfers who are the best in the world and have proven it on a global stage - the weekly winners on the PGA Tour, the top finishers in majors, the top finishers in the previous Masters, the top 50 in the global rankings, and the winners of the most important amateur events. This event isn't widespread enough to warrant an invitation to The Masters, at least certainly not yet.

I’ve never heard of this tournament either. But I looked it up and it’s a match play event featuring the top 4 men’s and women’s teams from the NCAA Championship.  Would definitely say it’s not worthy of a Masters invite.

I think if you want to invite a college golfer, invite the individual NCAA champion. I've only heard of this event because the Golf Channel is broadcasting it, and it really doesn't strike me as an even that's worthy of a Masters invite.

Ok. I see I might have jumped the gun. Apologies.

No need to apologize, it's not a problem. I just think the Masters is a bit too exclusive for that event. The NCAA individual champion could be a potential idea, but I wonder if there would be any sort of overseas equivalent (or if there would even need to be one)?

How about this ... the winner gets to be the marker for the last place guy on Saturday and Sunday if there are an odd number of players. ;)

I think the OP was suggesting this because the tournament is an Amateur tournament played at East Lake, which was Bobby Jones' home course.

In a way, it represents what Bobby Jones was building with the Masters.   There's a cool bit of Nostalgia in this idea, but as others have mentioned, there are much more deserving amateur accomplishments that earn those spots..

absolutely not.   That job is Jeff Knox's and Jeff Knox's alone.  who, by the way, holds the course record from the member tees with a 61.  he has also beaten his playing partner in like half of the 15 masters rounds he's played in.

C'mon - think about the bigger picture. No harm in the winner from East Lake Cup getting in; as I see that as a stepping stone (along a very slippery slope) to eventually allowing the medalist from the TST Newport Cup getting an invite!
