I'd give him a solid B+. They showed a graphic toward the end of the telecast.. Tiger was ranked well over 1,000th in the OWGR at the time, and yet he placed better than than the #1 ranked player as well as many who ranked well above him. He placed about middle of the pack in his first outing back in a while.

I was surprised at some of the rips he took at the ball, but he was hitting it out there with some of the young guns. Played 4 rounds of competitive golf and, according to the post tourney interview, did so pain free.

And at least he didn't go jetting off to Abu Dhabi, or whatever he did the last time. He said he'll huddle with his team to devise a schedule that lets him play, practice, and rest enough to stay healthy. Sounds like he has a solid game plan. Looking forward to this season.

I give Tiger an A and people's grades an A.  I think Tiger did exactly what he's been saying for a year, which is one of the firsts for him with regard to an injury.  I think people's expectations have finally fallen to reality, otherwise he would have gotten an F since he didn't win by 10 strokes.  BTW, why is there no poll associated with this thread?

I don't think many knew what to expect in the first start in 301 days.  All we had to go on were the swing videos he posted for a few months.   He far exceeded the naysayers that said he was through, would never be able to stay up with the kids, would be hitting much more club in from the fairways and would be losing his putting touch.   There are a lot of stupid people with stupid opinions of Tiger Woods.

This is off topic, so I'm going to keep this short: the first amendment does not apply to "Golf Internet forums."

The site has rules, and you've been behaving poorly. This will not continue.

He played on tournament and had a top 10 finish. Not much else to say about 2017.

A lot of players played an entire golf season without a top 10 with many missed cuts.  Not much else to say about them, right?

And the tournament had only 18 players.

Many of them were good, higher ranked players, but even finishing last earned OWGR points and a guaranteed five-figure paycheck.

This week has 37 players earning good money and OWGR points.  Nothing wrong with it.

Just pointing out that the "top 10" Tiger earned wasn't in a full-field (or even medium-field) event. His equivalent position in a full-field event (ignoring the strength of the players) would have been T70 or so.

9th is a 70 man field is even more impressive.  Doubt that 52 journeymen would have beaten him the way he was playing.

He didn’t finish 9th out of 70. If the event had 154 players he’d have finished about T70 equivalent. It was a top ten only because there were 18 players only.

And there are no more “journeymen.”

70 or so make the cut in a full field event.  Tiger was high on the leaderboard for most of this tournament.  The top 125 typically keep their card or not depending on how they play during the year.  Web.com players can earn their card, but many fail and fall back.  These lower ranked players are the journeymen that rarely get in the hunt in a PGA Tour event and hardly ever get a win.

He finished middle of the field. In a field of 154 that’s about T70. He fell back on Saturday so he’d have made the cut and fallen back.

Even if you want to say T40, that’s well back.
