I give him an A. The chipping got better as week went on. Just needs to clean up Par 5 scoring. But he has irons into them and is swinging with some aggression. Looking forward to 2018.

I'll say B+ leaning towards an A-. Great to see him hitting the driver well and swinging hard at the ball. Definitely the type of play that he can built upon.

B+.

All he could have reasonably asked for after not really playing competitive golf for two years. Or after playing about six rounds, really, in almost two years.

I'd give him an A.  Making the cut.  Completing 72 holes healthy.  Finishing in top 10.

Considering many thought he might never play again, it is remarkable.  Had Fowler not played a career round today, Tiger could have been less than a half-a-dozen strokes off the lead.

Given how little golf he's played, how much he was struggling with his swing a couple years ago, how few rounds he's shot under par when he has played and how many surgeries he's had. I can't imagine any other player going through what's he's gone through physically and coming back and shooting -8 for 4 rounds in his first tournament at a course that isn't a pitch and putt.

Not sure if this would affect your grades or not, but be aware that there were only 18 players in this tournament and there was no cut.

I’d go with a B.  He played good, hit it far, showed flashes of great shots and seemed pain free.  Excited for his next outing.

Solid A in context to all that has transpired with his back in the last last few years.

Probably a B- level performance if 4-5 tournaments in.

Solid B. I reserve A grades for someone like Hogan who was back with a better play (comparing to fellow pros) after much worse experiences.

B, which is remarkable considering he's been on the shelf for a year or more. I'm not grading on a curve just because of his injuries.

B+. His bad day involved miscalculation more than bad form. He shouldn’t have made those mistakes. But overall he was really good off the tee, with approaches and around the greens. Very encouraging.

B+. He is a remarkable golfer. I'm sure he will work on the approach and short game. Plus, I felt, on the third day, he really went after a little too hard which might have affected tempo he had first two days. All in all, though, much better than I anticipated. -Marv

Come on, man! Everyone said this guy was done. That he should retire and do something else. He just beat world no.1 Dustin Johnson by eight shots over four days! How am I grading on a curve?

I'd give him an A-. He was practicing a lot before the Hero. Looks like his back is holding up. Haven't tuned in to a press conference to hear how much PT he's getting, but everyone goes to the trainer's bus.

I haven't seem him drive the ball that well in at least 10, maybe 15 years.  Makes me wonder if a lot of his driving woes have been on account of back problems.

The chipping was poor to terrible though.  Maybe with his health he can devote more time to it, but I wonder if he plays those shots with too much forward shaft lean.  Of course, I'm a 13 and suck so maybe shouldn't get into technique.  He probably lost a half dozen strokes on account of poor/mediocre chipping.

I was a bit disturbed when a reporter asked him after his first round if she'd seen him take Advil during that round, to which he said yes.  But then he lied, saying he wasn't in pain but it was just his doctor's orders.  No way.  A MD might tell you to take advil if you were having symptoms but wouldn't just have you take it if all was great.  So, that bears watching.

    • Day 9, May 13.  After work, I went to my practice room for a dozen balls (two sessions of a half dozen each).  I may do more later, but I wanted to make sure I posted here too.  Same priority as yesterday, with the arms lifting.
    • Day 263 6-13 Setup alignment stick station for hands off body drill. Worked on wrist arch as well. Working on not hitting the stick 😀
    • Day 64 (13 May 26) - last practice of golf team for the school golf team….got to hit a few balls while working with the kids.
    • Hi @RetiredOldMan!  I am glad to see you are still playing and having good scores.  I hope that when I am 79, I am not only able to play, but still able to produce as good scores as you have been doing.   I look forward to hearing more of your success and your opinion of the senior flex shafts.
    • Hello Golfing Buddies, It has been awhile since I posted but I am the Retired Old Man that asked for advice because I suffered two "T.I.A.'s about switching from playing right handed to playing left handed.  I purchased a Callaway Edge Left handed golf clubs. I changed the grips to oversize grips.  Well, two weeks ago and still at 79 years old, I shot a 44 and 47 on a small course in my hometown.  I am currently changing my shafts from regular flex to Senior flex.  So, you can see' it can be done! So, you other old timers; get with the program! Blessings to all of you. Retired Old Man (Terry Warner)
