Day 474

Practiced my pitch/lob shots this morning. I used various clubs for both. Didn't pay much attention to yardages, since I was using range balls. I did have a target though.

My goal wasI was for balls to land on, or near the ball line to that target.

Main focuses were set up, stance, club face aim, and ball first contact, then turf.

Hit about 60 balls. I culled about 20 worn out looking balls, and used them for warm up swings. The newer, better looking balls, I used for practice.

DAY 519   Spent about three hours practicing at Legacy Golf Club... evenly divided between working on my full swing, and chipping/pitching.  As it relates to chipping I continued to do left hand only, right  hand only and then both hands on the club practice swings and chip shots.  What I can say, is I am a LOT better at left hand only chip shots than I was a week ago or so... wish I was making the same level of progress with both hands on the club.  And at this point, I would chip with my right hand only on the club ANYTIME!!  The old saying is "Rome was not built in a day!"  BUT maybe my chipping technique, quality of contact, etc could be built in a month???

Day 285

Just putt-ered around the house for 30 minutes or so.  As today ended up with a few appointments for late mornin through early evening, I putted a bit int the carpets and putting green. I was able to putt with good consistency and most of my attempts between 2' and 6' were one-putts super shots.   Beyond 10' I dropped to about 75% but left myself with simple second shots.  All in all ok with the results.

Day 475

Full swing, driving range, fairway work this morning. This is where I use fencing, and fairway flags for a make shift fairway. Maybe (+/-) 40 yards wide. I don't use the whole range.

I then go through my bag, one club, one swing at a time, alternating between longer/shorter clubs. I usually go through my bag three, or four times.

Target is the 250 yard flag that is in the center (close) of my make shift fairway.

I use an abbreviated pre-shot routine between swings. No "raking" of balls.

The goal is to keep all balls in, or near the fairway. I was successful for the most part.

DAY 520   Again I spent 3 plus hours at Legacy Golf Club.  First working on my full swing on the range .. focused on improving my turn on my backswing (pivot) and staying in posture on my throughswing.   Felt like I am making progress!!  Then over to the chipping area... where I hit chips with left hand only, right hand only and then both hands on the club.   Focusing on tempo, and technique.  Again felt like I am making progress.

Then came home and scheduled two tee times... one at Seneca Hickory Stick Golf Club in western New York State, AND Tatanka Golf Club in Niobara, NE.  Both are on the list of GolfWeek Magazine's Top Courses You Can Play.   Getting close to setting up tee times at three other courses in New York that are also on the list!!

Day 444 - April 23, 2019 - Practiced some chipping and pitching from some VERY tight lies to clean up a little poor contact I've had lately. Keys were to pivot on the backswing, and let the wrists do a bit less, and then pivot more while being very lazy with the hands/wrists on the downswing.

Day 286:

Worked for 1/2 hour with my 50º and 9i on a variety of shots with the two clubs.  I use the 9i as part of my wedge line of thought.

I was getting a nice 10 yard gap when I executed full swings.  What I was hoping for.  I even got good spin off of the 9i to minimize roll after higher lofts.

It was fun imagining different scenarios fr each club; I executed many of them.

Still need to work for a better line with the 50º as some of the half swing shots were off by a bit to the right.

Day 476

Forced carry practice this morning. As always, the carry part is 15' foot wide bunker, which includes 4'-5' foot grassy hill next to it. About 10'-15' past the grassy hill is a practice pin.

The goal is to carry the two obstacles and land the ball near the the practice pin. I can either lob the ball to the pin, or hit a pitch, or longer shot to the far side of the grassy hill, and have the ball bounce/roll off the far slope to the pin.

Any ball that I fail to clear the bunker/hill with, become bunker practice balls to that same pin.  There is usually a few of those during my warm up time.

For warm ups, I start close to the bunker, then gradually move back, up to 40-50 yards.

Focuses are club selection based on the lie, and distance needed. Ball position, stance set up, and club face aim.

Today was fairway lies due to a recent mowing of the practice area.

I use anywhere from a 1/2 to 3/4 swing, while letting the various lofted clubs do most of the carry work.

Pretty sure I will be playing 18 holes a little later today.

Day One:

Did some work gathering distances for all 11 of my full swing clubs, basically took distances by hitting 20 shots with each club, took out the worst 2 and best 2, and averaged from there. I felt I needed to do this mainly because I went from blades to SGI irons this year.

DAY 521   Spent a couple of hours on the range today, working through several drills given to me by my coach, to help with rotating on my backswing versus swaying, and improving my kinematic sequence on the downswing.    Felt is was an excellent session.  Tomorrow's lesson with my coach will tell me more :-)

Officially met a man today at the range that he and I had said hello several times.  He is 85 years old, and from the UK.  He told me a story about the time his father met and spoke at length with Harry Vardon...about what it takes to play really great golf.   It is all about it!!

Day 198, April 24

Worked on a low hands feel at A6 today hitting in to my net. I started with mapping feels and hit partials. Then I worked on a fluid feel with my rehearsal swings prior to hitting. Film looked pretty good.  My PP is to get lower hands at A6 so I come into impact steeper and move my low point forward. My instructor also wants me more active prior to the takeaway.

    • I don’t measure my intake either. I generally have a black coffee, a bottle of soda, some sweet tea at home, and anything in between is water. An ice cold bottle of water is one of my favorite things. It feels like an immediate refresher for my body. I’ll admit that I need to drink a little more though.
    • For such a nice membership, there have been some bad incidents in the past few years.  We had someone voted out a couple of years ago over something he did and he harassed the board members for three months until he moved out of the area.   Generally they’ve tried to do things like tournament handicaps and identify certain people who they know should be lower and adjust it somehow.  I can understand not wanting to go thru something like the guy who was voted out again i emailed the pro who forwarded it to the handicap committee.  They are going to see what can be done.  I walked someone thru what happened and they are going to nudge him to post the score from the match and see what he does.  Since he didn’t put anything in the electronic scoring past 13, based on how he played 14 and 15 plus having to take bogey on 16-18 for after he left, he should post 83.  We’ll see if it’s even higher,   Since he was really even thru 13, then doubled 14 and parred 15 my guess is he really shot 75 being generous and giving him 2 pars and a bogey on the three holes he didn’t play.    i shot 88, getting 16 shots for my course handicap which is net even and I lost on 13.  We do brackets where handicaps should be within 4-5 of each other.  Most matches only have 1-2 shots as a difference between players  neither of us posted the score yet.  There was something in the match play rules about whether or not to post your score.  I couldn’t remember if we were supposed to or not.  I don’t think he was going to post that, because even with his inflated score it would be the lowest score in his recent 20. Lucky I didn’t because they want to see what he does post and they don’t want me posting so he can try to calibrate his score.
