Day 150: New priority piece to work on. Working on keeping my head a little further back in the backswing, but mostly in the downswing. The priority is really working this in with my set up tweaks. I have fairly recent videos of my swing with me doing this fairly well. So just a little tweak. Did some full swing mirror work, working on trying to see what the feel is.

Day 243:

Kind of a weird day at the range.

I decided to work on only 2 clubs, my 50º and my 9i.  They are closely paired in how I will approach them for the time being.

Both had solid lost and the directional use was well within the 25 yard "fairway" I focused on in my concept of were I was hitting.  Depending on the club I was using, I took time to hit towards targets of 75 - 110 yards.  These were flags in the design of the range.

With both clubs, I tended to under hit all day by 5-10 yards.  On line, great loft, but 5-10 yards short.  May be I was off myself.  After warm-ups I felt loose but slightly under powered.  The results were played out.

Perhaps, I just chalk it up to that.

Day 8:

Long day at work, but did some work on the backswing before getting ready to hit the hay. I’m whipped. Worked on takeaway and getting more vertical in the backswing.

DAY 479    Went to the range to work through the drills I was given yesterday ... to improve the consistency of the plane of my swing.  Worked through the drills for a little more than a couple of hours.  Process the same ... 4-5 swings using the feedback device, then a slow shadow swing, and finally hit a ball that is teed up.  Review the success of applying the swing to the swing when hitting the ball.   Then start over again.

Then headed to the putting green.. worked on one distance control drill.   Goal -- make 20 putts in row within a 3 foot circle around the hole from 20 feet, then 30 feet, and finally 45 feet. I was not successul at 45 feet.  Oh well.

Time to rest.

Day 244:

Heavy rain eliminated both a 9 hole practice session and/or a day at the range.

Morning as 15 minutes doing physical exercises related to my golf swing and 15 minutes with the Orange Whip®.

This was followed by a 3 hour stress test at my cardiologist.

So not a day to be a couch potato!

Day 402 - March 12, 2019 - Ten minutes before Brad showed up working on the "lay and turn" feeling. The nice thing about this is that it doesn't feel like the face is just staying wide open, which is why I feel I still have that ever-so-slight steepening move.

Day 9:

Worked on my around the green game today. Not long, 15-20 minutes. I have been experimenting a bit with using my 56* around the greens more rather than my usual *60. Also working on more weight forward in my short game. Feels weird but results were decent.

Day 434

More indoor putting this morning. Same routine, hitting straight putts, by rolling the ball over a dime, 18 inches in front of the ball.

When on the course, that practice dime will be replaced with an intermediate target. A blade of grass, or what ever else is available to use.

My golf buddies, and myself have a 10 am tee time. Dollar bills will be changing hands, while we act like fools.

Day 245:

Very windy day!  Good size breeze directly into my aim with a bit of a .  So a great day to make some adjustments to my shots to allow for Mariah! (Quasi-obscure musical reference.)

I was able to make a good adjustment for most of my clubs, with my 9i and 60º the really big noticeable exceptions. Yes, I lost a few yards in the process but I enjoyed no significant off-line shots.

I have been working hard these past few days to get better loft and lob from my 60º and 9i.  I may learn to adjust the weapons a bit more down the road.

As well, I sat my drive and used hybrids for my "tee shots".

DAY 480   A fantastic day on the range!!  Warmed up and then worked through a drill to help me stay more on plane in my backswing and downswing.

Then Scott Underhill of KMotion stopped by to do an assessment of my swing using KCoach.   After the assessment, we identified two areas that I need to work on.... both of which fit with what I am trying to improve.  The first was I that I have too flat of a shoulder plane when taking the club back, so I needed a lot more side bend.   And the second was an issue that has plagued me for a long time -- which is I tend to initiate my downswing with my hands instead of my lower body.   We did a little biofeedback training, and then I hit 4-5 more balls, and my side bend improved by 50%.... and I hit those shots straight and longer than normal.  So it was a great morning.

Starting tomorrow I will pull out my KPlayer and do the exercises I need to improve my side bend, and make some other small adjustments to improve my consistency at set-up, top of swing and impact positions.  And within a week, he will send me a specific improvement plan based on the rest of the data that was captured.    Shout out to the folks at KMotion who keep improving thier product.

    • I have seen across twitter today most of livs biggest aloggers admit they wrong and the product is great for viewers.
    • Golf does not need those idiots who throw things like that. Not on any tour.
    • I have won the net division of the 2024 William Anderson Match Play Championships at Neshanic Valley Golf Course.
    • I won the net division of the match play tournament. Yesterday was the semifinals and my opponent conceded the round to me on the 2nd hole because he knew he would be unavailable for the final today. I got lucky there and got a bye into the finals. We did end up playing our match as an exhibition and I would have lost. It was the worst round of the tournament for me and I think knowing that the match didn't matter might have been a factor. I'll write up a blog post about the whole experience at some point. Today I won, 3&1. My opponent and I halved the first three holes much to his credit. I was striping it and he just kept scrambling and hanging in there. We both blew up on the par 3 4th hole but I ended up taking that one by holing an 8-footer for double bogey. I went up 2 after he put two in the penalty area on #5 and promptly gave that hole back by putting my tee shot into the penalty area on #6 by a foot. It's important to note that most of the penalty areas on this course are deemed environmentally sensitive areas and we are not allowed to enter or play shots out of them. So even though I physically was able to play a shot from where I was on #6, I could not, by rule. I followed that by winning #7, making a 25' birdie putt and finished the front 9 3 up after he had some bunker trouble on #9. I went up 4 by winning #11 (we both sucked on that hole but he missed the putt to halve). On #12 we both hit the green with our tee shots. He hit his first putt past the hole and I lagged mine inside of 4' with an uphill putt for par. His putt for par was too long again, just inside of mine but definitely outside of gimme range. I gave him that one for bogey. I felt at the time, being 4 up, that I didn't want to win the hole because he ends up missing a 3-footer and fourputted or something. I wanted to win the hole by making my par putt. I did not. He probably would have made the putt anyway (he's not me after all, and he made everything in that range all day) but it seemed like the sporting thing to do at the time. He was genuinely surprised I gave it to him, butI felt good about it. Then it almost bit me in the ass as he started to mount a comeback. We halved #13 after he made a great up & down and he took #14 with a long par putt. He also won #15 with a 5' birdie putt. We halved #16 with a pair of bogeys after he put his tee shot in the water and I missed a 4-footer for the win. We got to #17 and I was still 2 up. He hit his tee shot just off the back of the green to an extended apron area short of the back bunker and I put mine on the green pin high but 30' away. He was actually closer so I played first and hit it within a foot for par. He didn't hole out for birdie which sealed the match and ended up making bogey on the hole. With the pressure off, we both played the par 5 #18 well. He played it as a three shot hole like a normal person and hit it to 8' and two-putted for par. I striped my drive and ended up with a downhill lie to an uphill approach like 180 yards out and gave myself the green light to go for it in two. Thin hooked it into thick rough to the left of the green with a bunker in between and hit a high flop to 4', probably my best shot of the day. Made the birdie putt.
