DAY 56  January 26   I got out to the range in the afternoon for almost three hours.  I worked on a single thing for almost the entire time.  I worked on improving my left wrist position at impact.  I have a tendency to be a flipper... and this has hurt my consistency.  So today all about the left wrist position.  To make it more random, and engage my brain, I varied the clubs from 3 wood, to 5 iron to 7 iron to pitching wedge.   Then I hit a dozen drives and just bombed them -- for me!!! LOL!!

Day 25 - Back to full swing work in the yard today - even on the frozen ground.  Irons skate really good on frozen grass/turf.   Focus today  - foot work, specifically stance width.  Played around with narrowing the stance on the irons, I believe I have been having too wide a stance and that has inhibited the body rotation.  Finding that just narrowing it by 3 inches or so makes all the difference.  Want to work on that more - so maybe that will be the Saturday exercise.  Overall - shot trajectory was much more consistent.  Seeing positives by making small adjustments with each session.

Day 5

Halted my Gold Flex work out.  Need to listen to the body, getting joint pain.  My right knee was flaring up.

I did Day 22 of the Covid challenge.  Really needed this drill to get things squared away with set up.

Once I finished doing those drills I used my 8 iron and started with small short swings keeping Day 22 in mind.  Worked up 1/4 then 1/2 then 3/4 and finally finished with 5 full swings.  Also kept in mind getting wide on back swing.

Very happy with center face contact.  Yesterday I was either center or toe contact.  Today, center thru all, well except the very first ball that I missed the net and lost the ball somewhere in my warehouse, uffda.

Great day, set up fixed, center contact where it should be, ball was going down line excellent.

Just really happy - great 40 minute practice session

Great to read you bombed some Drives!  Very happy for you.  You have been working hard and it is paying off.  Keep it up @JuanTheGolfer

DAY 57  January 29th.   Went to the range when the temperature got up to 64!  Yes I am a "weather whimp!"  Spent 2 1/2 hours working through drills again from the book, "How to Train For Golf Like An Olympian."  As I was working through these drills I was focus on better impact position with my left wrist getting into a better position.  When I do this, I feel like I can hit the ball as hard and fast as possible using the energy from my right arm extending.  Also did lots of swings with the Gold Flex, dynamic stretches, ...

Day 396 - January 29, 2021

Full swing work before a lesson, and after I kicked a guy out of the hitting area. 😄 (Not really.) I wish I had more time today, but it was going well. It still feels SO FAR out and away from me.

Day 411:

Tried to find some feels/thoughts for covering the ball better. Tried some different things hitting half shots with 7-iron and then some hybrid. Yard is a little too muddy for setting up tripod, but it’s supposed to dry up a bit over the weekend and next week so might be able to get some video to check on this one.

    • Ok, that makes sense. I was trying to wrap my head around that concept when I was writing my post.
    • 78 today at Minnesott (36 front / 42 back) - a new first with an even par on the front.  A big day of up and downs for par.  Only 26 putts against 4 GIR and 5 nGIR.  Was a CPO (cart path only) day due to recent rains.  Overall game was on - until 18 where I was looking at having a first “no-sixes” and made a triple 7 (tee shot in the lake, 2nd tee in fairway, shot 4 approach to right of green pin high, shot 5 bogie on the green, long two putts for triple 7.  Still a solid round and new personal best.
    • I believe that 76 bpms is the tour average (or somewhere around that). I think that's from taking it back to impact. I'm not 100% sure of exactly how it works since a typical pendulum is already moving when it starts going back. The putter on the throughswing ideally would work pretty much exactly like a pendulum though. To get the exact same time period from starting the putter back to impact, you'll have to accelerate it a lot faster on a longer putt right at the beginning until it gets to the speed it needs to be to make the putter move the right distance. Probably all way too much to think about while actually hitting a putt, but bottom line is I agree entirely that a metronome is a good thing to use if you're working on your putting tempo. As to the split between backstroke and downstroke, the tour tempo lot said 2:1 is the ideal. 3:1 for full swing. 2:1 for short game and putting. Whenever I go on a SAM I am about 1.7:1 I think and I can't for the life of me get my backstroke to be slow enough to get it to 2:1. Ho hum. Last comment - if you do have a perfect pendulum putting stroke and you have the ball slightly forward of the center of your stance, then the putter should be just starting to rise again at impact and with the way that pendulum motion works, it should be very slightly decelerating at impact, which I believe someone may have suggested once 😛
    • Was going to chime in on Erik’s videos - they were and are solid teaching on better putting.
    • I'm a big fan of the metronome. I forget what my actual numbers were, but something like 0.59 seconds: my backswings, regardless of the length of the putt, is 0.59 seconds (or 0.72 or whatever the actual number was). The period of a pendulum is determined by the length of the pendulum. So, to hit a putt harder, you take it back farther… in the same amount of time. So you have to swing it faster, and thus, it comes through faster. The putter head has to travel faster to travel farther in the same amount of time. Everyone tends to have a "beat" that they like. For some it's slower, and they have to make bigger backswings to make a putt go the same distance as someone like Brandt Snedeker. It also has a metronome IIRC. 😄
