Every time you think Rory's making it look easy, he manages to make it more difficult. No reason to airmail that green. Play for the middle, two putts, easy birdie. He must know how bunched the leaderboard is and that birdie is all he needs.

Currently focusing on: Key 4 - shorter backswing.

Runs to the green backwards and dislocate his ankle.
Pops ankle ack in himself.
Might not be able to play The Masters.
Takes an X-ray.
Doctors allows him to play.
Leads The Masters towards the end of Thursday.

I am very late on this but I just wanted to say that I cackled like an old witch brewing a potion in a thunderstorm when Sergio hit those balls in the water. A truly great moment in my Masters history.

Delighted for Finau, especially after yesterday.

All told, this has been a really entertaining first day. Nice, bunched leaderboard and feels like a lot of players are grinding to get the scores. Could see someone going low tomorrow and taking charge.

That sucks. He could fly off somewhere and come back for Sunday evening though.

      It isn't about maintaining focus 100% of the time when you are on the course. It is getting focus back for the shot at hand. Even PGA tour players will chat with their caddies or opponents about non-golf stuff, but then lock in. It is hard to try to constantly be 100% locked in for 4+ hours.  Totally normal thing to happen. You really only need a few moments of focus.  This is where a pre-shot routine helps. Maybe you need to add something that gets the focus back.  I just focus on every shot like a puzzle that needs solved. I like solving puzzle and problems. So, I try to be curious. Which then enhances focus. I think it lets me take each shot at hand. It lets me have the down time between shots. What I do is just get to the ball, and then start gathering information. Yardage, lie, wind, where is the pin at, etc.. Then I figure out what I want to do.  It's not like I can't shut off the thoughts and focus when I need to. I only need to focus for a few minutes before each shot.
