16 members have voted

  1. 1. If you might be able to participate in a TST Michigan Golf Outing, what is a good month and day of the week? (multiple choices permitted)

    • June - week day
    • June - weekend
    • July - week day
    • July - weekend
    • June or July do not work but later could be better

Let's throw out some locations that may be central to the people that are interested in playing.

I like @bkuehn1952's Leslie Park in Ann Arbor.   It's about 1 hour from me and about 1 hour from Lansing.   For those interested in travel from the south, it's about 1 hour north of Toledo, OH.

We have about 11 possible players (Jon from way up north), that include Ann Arbor, Davison, mid-Michigan, Illinois, Detroit, Lansing and Indiana.

Let's keep this alive and set a date and location so we can make plans.

If I'm able to attend, Ann Arbor won't be a problem.

I'd suggest setting a date and seeing how it goes. There's no law against having multiple outings in the same year.

July 8 it is the week before the city championship so the course should be in good shape.

Also we should consider Eagle Crest and Washtenaw Country club.

I am down for this,  as long as i have a couple weeks notice, it doesnt matter if it's during the week or a weekend, and if it's in the ann arbor area i can ask my brother if he is interested, since he lives in livonia

Any date works for me.  If we are playing at @bkuehn1952's home course, he's gotta give some strokes.

Well, I let the month of June slip away.  I have picked two tentative dates:

July 19 (Thursday) - Lansing/Okemos area

July 28 (Saturday) - Brighton Area

I have not picked out courses or a time.  We will play decent courses but not a top of the line track.  Time will likely be around 9-10am to allow some travel time.  Give me a "Yes", "Maybe" or "No" on each date.  If no one can make either date, then it is back to the drawing board.

I am out of town July 8 but I encourage all of you to try to put something together for that date.

If July doesn't work, we can always push this to August.

Thanks Brian for putting this together.   My kid will be in town from the 18th thru the 29th so I'm out.

Correction to Huntmore prices-   M-F: Seniors $30,  Regular $42     S-S: $54 for all.  These prices and the previous ones posted are for 9:00am to 10:00am tee times.  I can make July 19th and/or 29th.  Can't do July 8th.

    • Day 11: did mirror work for a while. Worked on the same stuff.
    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.
    • Day 115 12-5 Skills work tonight. Mostly just trying to be more aware of the shaft and where it's at. Hit foam golf balls.
    • Day 25 (5 Dec 25) - total rain day, worked on tempo and distance control.
    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
