He seems eager to give back that shot and then some on 12.

He may have changed his mind?  Putt coming up.

Seems so. Great recover shot.

I am more on the ‘make the cut Tiger’ watch.

I agree, could not get close to players at practice range. Half of it was like watching home plate from the seats in front of third base. Some tee boxes, no access. The course is not great logistically speaking. Stretching out the holes, they cross each other which makes for weird routing. Don't even get me started on transportation.

Did they show Justin Thomas' 420 yard drive yesterday? That's worth replaying.

I guess he'll just have to hit a 420 yard drive again today.

Third GIR out of 4 for Tiger.

Okay Tiger, don't three putt that tap-in... good.  Nice par.

Huh, everyone in this group has a birdie, even though I was informed that only #5 was a birdie hole.  ;-)

Keep it going group.  Would be nice if Tiger could complete the no-5s (or worse) challenge today.

I saw that last night. ... Was thinking he looked ready to puke.

I'm surprised Tiger doesn't just take an AK grip on his driver and use that instead of a 3-wood off the tee.  It's clear he could use the forgiveness that the driver has on some of these shots. (re: 14th hole tee shot)

Tiger breaking out the blue paint for his third shot, I wish I had poor shots that good, I'd be a lot better.

There goes the no-5s challenge :-(

You know, most people here are golf fans. I honestly don't think there are that many fanboys or fangirls of any player. I just don't see it. But, feel free to keep digging. You don't even know how the media works. Players are interviewed. They say stuff. You're the one making up stories.

You're kidding aren't you???? This place is Tiger's main fan club, there's even pictures of him in the executive washroom..

But to be honest I can't recall him pulling a John Daly and walking off the course during or after a lousy round. Even if he shoots 80 today he'll man up and admit that he just didn't play good.

Some rain might make it easier to hold greens and go for flags.

Watching the live stream and it looks like they're playing in Ireland.  Also, what's with the inability to keep the cameras clean - must be a rookie crew.

USOpen.com commentators just said "broadcasting in 4K". The stream looks pretty sharp, but not sure if 4K refers to Directtv or stream.

    • It’s a great method for all you great ball strikers. But when you’re hitting over 200 balls with massive fats, smother shanks along with deep divots to begin with...it doesn’t really matter...you’re making a mess. This is why I always lay down the seed/sand mixture when I’m done.
    • Again… If you enjoy playing your way, by all means, have at it. I'm approaching this as a coach, an instructor, and the author of a book dealing with exactly this stuff as if you were asking me how to shoot the lowest scores and play your best golf. It is not by hitting irons only. I wrote the topic. Suffice to say I've read it. Your good and bad swings are consistent. If you were "inconsistent" you'd have rounds where you shoot 72 and others where you shoot 110. You're consistent enough that you tend to shoot a pretty narrow range of scores. It does no such thing. Comparing racing high-powered race cars to hitting the driver? Fail. Hell, a 2-iron would be the last club I'd put in the hands of a new golfer, and a driver is one of the easier ones - the ball is in the air (you're not hitting it off the ground), it has a huge club face, etc. Not if you want to shoot the lowest scores. Obviously there are "other options." You could play golf hitting every shot with your putter ten feet at a time. Pretty stupid way to play, but it's "another option." He did it by learning to hit driver. No, not bollocks to me. Driving is about twice as important as putting. Approach shots are almost three times as important. These are facts. The short game and putting only account for about 33% of the differences in your score. If I had you hit every shot of mine inside of 60 yards and every putt, you'd break 80. If we switched roles, I would probably not shoot more than about three to six shots better than you're shooting now. The old saying was wrong. It is almost exactly backward. Driving and approach shots are the skills with the highest "Separation Value®."
    • The point I was making is… if the rules limited golf equipment more than they did… people would still be buying new clubs and new balls. So I don't see how it's "all about the money" and you haven't made that point at all.
    • Thanks, I appreciate the feedback, it definitely gives me a lot to think about and work on! I know my swing is poor, but I’m very motivated to improve.  I’m also going to re-start lessons in January. I’m aiming for an update here every couple weeks so you guys can keep me on track—and I appreciate brutal honesty!!
    • I don’t think he’s saying that all.  He’s saying this.
