  1. Depending on the situation, greater than 150, I'll lay up to use a wedge.
  2. I trust your friends have recovered and have no side effects. I decided early on not to get any covid 19 medical info from other than my health authority. So far , my wife and I have not been knowingly infected. We are both over 60 and in reasonable health. We were able to golf this season and felt safe. Our city did a good job of forcing social distance around the clubhouse. Others have not. Numbers are exploding in our city and hospitals are now getting infected to the point its effecting hospital service for our existing needs. 10 deaths a day. Most over 50. Our latest city protest, around 250, parading to city hall, rallying against mask use. News footage has them hugging and packed tight together. Their basic chant "nobody is going to tell me what to do" I will not invite people into my home. I don't know where they have been. I'm reducing the opportunity to play covid 19 roulette. Covid fatigue...yup but you can't legislate stupid. We are all in this together. Christmas won't make that any easier. Hold the line and hope vaccine availability is soon. Stay safe folks
  3. For me, the bottom changes. I don't play on a perfectly flat surface , like a range mat. The course is rolling terrain. Up hill, down hill, side hill, grass height...effects where the club bottoms, sometimes closer to the lead foot, sometimes closer to the rear foot. I can hit them thin in any position if I don't adjust for that.
  4. I'm 67. I walk and push. I don't listen to music on the course. I get my hour of music daily at home. I don't need the added hassle. Most folks who I am paired with, who do play music, ask if I mind. I always answer no, I don't mind. It's always low. Crazy thing...9 out of 10 times...they stream the late 60's/early 70's hits of my youth. Often I get offered a hit. lol Growing up in my house, my 33 year old son introduced me to everything from Jack Johnson to Lamb of God. We both play music. There isn't much out there that will offend me. I also don't want to be that old curmudgeon who screams at clouds. I play enough, I see many of these folks multiple times a season. Its great to see the number of younger golfers on the course these days. Maybe some will stay long after the zombie apocalypse eases. Stay safe and healthy
  5. A 48 Pitching wedge. If its short grass and no obstacles, I'll putt from 5 to 10 feet off the green, Depends on the rough. My wife will putt from 20 yards. She is deadly
  6. I am saving a small fortune (to me) on car maintenance and gas, clothing and lunches. Just heard, no plan to return until at least April. I get two hours a day of commuting time back in my life. Due to MS Teams use by the company, I'm getting my stretching and pushups done throughout the work day. I'm more productive at work., from home. After losing employment, My son and his better half, moved to a smaller community and both obtained full time employment immediately. Folks , stay safe and healthy
  7. I wear progressive transition lens glasses. I normally pick my line from behind the ball, line up and hit my mark. (usually) Never found it to be a problem. But I started golfing years after I started wearing the transitions. Maybe I'm just so used to them
  8. Howdy, I'm 67 and started at 58. Hadn't played before. Managed to get my game where I don't completely s--t the bed in public with strangers. Couple of things that are helping me: -started doing some pushups and planks every day. Just helps me stay somewhat stronger for the days 18 hole walk -Doing some old man yoga everyday. Helps get rid of the aches and pains and really helps in the full swing -Trying to walk at least 40 minutes every day I've finally realized, that even after a bad round, I'm not going to lose my card.
  9. Similar to our area plus we had Canadian thanksgiving. Our health authorities indicate sources include bars (liquor and food and spit sharing), work places (we really don't know what our work mates really do privately) and informal gatherings (indoor sports leagues, any type of "after" activity, especially where booze and food is shared) which include folks outside your family units. And often involves the sharing of food utensils. My wife and I are over 65. We are in the group. We both have diverse groups of friends , many much older than ourselves. They continue to contact each other to try and set up live social interactions. They are just trying to be friendly. We just don't trust them to be in our home. My glasses fog up occasionally when wearing a mask. I spill disinfectant occasionally when washing my hands in a store or in my car. I have to wait occasionally in a supermarket isle to let someone pass by. PITA-You bet. I'm gonna stick with the PITA and not drown in my own snot.
  10. I'm doing what you're doing man. I don't want to die by drowning in my own snot and I'd prefer not to catch the virus, show no systems and pass it on to somebody else. Way back in March, I was listening to our national radio station. They were interviewing a local doctor who was involved with a WHO group who were investigating the then new Covid 19. He suggested folks get their medical info from : WHO, their National health agency, their Provincial health agency or their employer. No where else. Every day the chief medical officer for the province speaks at a 3:30 press conference , provides the stats and what we need to do to keep the virus from spreading as quickly. In my city, we have started seeing 750 cases a day the past two weeks. Folks appear to not care and what they "think" trumps the safety of the general population. I'm pretty sure these same folks cheat on the course.
  11. Exactly. Always wondered why keeping the score at or near par is a goal on the big stage. Can The PGA and the ultra private courses that host events be strictly driven by TV $$ Certainly not an issue on the publics I play. An extra 20 or 30 yards drive might get us on in regulation.
  12. I play the same muni most of the time. I have been paired with folks who play the blacks only a few times in the past few years. I play the whites, second from front. I am probably jaded from a small sample size and I'm generalizing here: -I have to wait for them to hit and they have to wait for the landing spot to clear. They never hit the landing spot. I walk to my ball and I'm still waiting for them to find , maybe, the lost ball. -They are oblivious to anything around them because....they play the blacks? What I have learned: -Go to my tee , hit my ball, hide behind a tee until they finally decide to hit. -Find my ball on the fairway, hit it, then wait for them to find their ball I play with one guy, a volunteer marshal at the course, who plays the blacks. Has had back surgery so rides. He's 71. Bombs it, finds it, hits it again. Never an issue.
  13. It's taken me 9 years and twice through LSW to figure out that at my level (200-210 driver, with roll) I can't carry 225. I know...seems stupid ...but you never know when you'll start making those shots you've never made. This year decided to learn how to lay up ...and...stop trying stupid shots after a bad shot. Allowed me to break 90 on a par 72. Reducing doubles and triples every game, helps my score better than a birdie once a month and most of my doubles and triples are due to not laying up and stupid shots after a bad shot
  14. So True...I do like the rivalries tho
  15. Like him or hate him, I enjoyed seeing JS and JT having it out in the top 10. Really hope to see him get it back together. Its like Wolfe and Morikawa. What a great competition that could make.
  16. This is our 9th year. Got lucky about 5 years ago and took 8 to 10 winter lessons each for two winters. He was CPGA instructor and a prince of a guy. Didn't teach a specific swing, just worked with what we had and treated us each differently based on how we learn. Unfortunately, he passed at 48 (Cancer) and we have chosen not to find a replacement.
  17. Maybe the small clique who think they control the winners circle should disqualify anyone who: has a Cap that is better than theirs or B anyone who beats one of their clique in the championship. No wonder golf has such a private mens club reputation. And I'm a 67 year old wasp. Thats embarrassing to me.
  18. Don't have much of a clue about club tech ...but...is the grip/shaft/blade length a touch longer, causing it to bottom out sooner, digging in behind the ball, all other setup being equal.
  19. He had a job at an auto dealership and was doing well. I believe the owner offered him the opportunity vs a salary sales bonus. Plus he got two months off.
  20. A friend of mine who told me he was a star golfer at 14 had an opportunity to play the Monday qualifiers at 5 Mackenzie Tour stops. He was now 33 and had not played tourney golf in ten years. Don't know his HCP but when we played with him he regularly shot par, +1. A sponsor covered new gear, clothes, travel, hotel, food, practice rounds, entry etc. He came home with great memories. Never broke 71...all the qualifiers were 5 to 7 under. That was the Mackenzie Tour. Those pros are good.
  21. Shot a 44 last night on a local par 35, parred a couple, doubled a couple, bogied the rest. Missed two 4 footers on 8 and 9. Was a club long on three different approach shots. Good strikes but very long first putts But thats always the goal...bogie. Constantly working on reducing doubles and triples.
  22. I've learnt some things on the forum which has helped me get my handicap down 5.00 this year, from 23 to 18. -Reducing doubles and triples will help me quicker than 1 birdie every third or fourth round. -the white tees are my friend. -I hit my driver anywhere from 185 to 205, including roll. Trying to fly the ball 150 over a hazard isn't going to happen. Trying to hit my second shot with a wood to a green 200 + yards away isn't going to happen...GIR + 1, is my friend. -Hitting a stupid shot after a bad shot does not help my score
  23. A 43 on a par 72 front nine. Even par on a front nine par 68 (front nine par 35)
  24. Howdy. I finally broke 90 on Monday past. First sub 90 on a par 72. 46+43 at Fraserview golf course in Vancouver bc off the men’s whites. Hope that qualifies for the badge.
