I think we were. Yes, this is a GREAT feature, long overdue Some people even make Snaps (snapchat) while driving.

Looking for club recommendations
Kalnoky replied to sppitts's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Make sure you try Ping. I think it's a really good product. I recently hit some of those at the store and wow, made my AP1's feel like an old boat car w/ AM radio and no air conditioning. If I ever get new irons I will definitely look at those Ping again. -
Courses without "real" senior tees.
Kalnoky replied to Buckeyebowman's topic in Golf Courses and Architecture
All of our tees (yellow, green, green-orange, orange, and black) have a separate slope/rating for men and women. So there really aren't any "ladies" tees, since everyone plays (or should play) according to their ability. Some of the women collegiate golfers play and juniors play longer tees than the men. There's no shame in playing forward. It brings the hazards into play at different lengths, which can be challenging. What is shameful is people playing from the back tees who have no business being there. I'm talking about the guys that never break 110 and never hit a single fairway. Usually it's younger guys who I see doing this. -

This is a great solution. We have a blended tee option at my home course and a lot of guys play it. It makes the easy holes harder and the hard holes easier. -
Yes. Everyone here aerated about two weeks ago and it is playable now.

5W. I just don't have a good feeling for it. I don't have a good feel for the take away or the top of the swing, whether it should "feel" more like the driver or more like, say a 3H? If I grip it strong it pulls badly, if I hit down on it goes too high.. if I top it... yuck. And where is the ball position supposed to be? I know this club has incredible potential to help my scoring on par-5's and that's why I bought it. But I will probably need a lesson this off-season to use it effectively.

For low hanging branches, 5i played off the back heel. Thankfully these days I don't have to punch out very often. When I started playing golf, oh my... every other hole was a punch out. I can't believe I didn't quit the game.

That's right, and I emphatically expressed my own opinion, which is, who cares what others think if it works for you. There's a small contingent of you here who are habitually terse and matter-of-fact about speaking your piece, with no mind to how it might come off. So I think occasionally, I am going to respond in kind. Just to make it fun.

I clip to my belt loop and tuck in back pocket so it's not blowing around in the wind. I only use a clip towel during the Lift & Clean/Local Rule. In Oregon that's basically from November-April. I've seen the little ones people have that commemorate tournaments and such, but mine is purely functional microfiber. Who cares what people think about your towels. They're for you to use, how you see fit. If someone wants to pay my green fee and buy me lunch they can say whatever they want. Otherwise they can shove it up their culo.

Here in the Pacific Northwest where the sand is often wet and packed hard I will putt out. I learned this trick from watching the golf channel. @Brickman I also struggle with the bunker shot. The bunker shot is the hardest shot for me by far. It's not even close.. I cannot mentally bring myself to hit behind the ball. And I find it very hard to find a practice bunker that can simulate the wide range of bunker conditions on an actual golf course. If I have to use a wedge/bounce combination to get out it almost always takes me two tries, and even then it'll just barely get over the lip.

The poll results are interesting, especially the 17% who play as much as they want. So roughly 1 out of 5 golfers.. is either retired, rich in time, or completely unattached. I would get better fast if I could play anytime I wanted. Right now I'm on the lifer plan, which is to say, I plan to play the rest of my life and maybe one day 10 years from now I'll be pretty good.

I couldn't have said it better myself. Individually I also suffer from nerves on approach shots. Especially now I am driving the ball very well (had my best one ever at 266 yards yesterday) and I have what should be easy approach shots with short irons and wedges. I get nervous seeing the green so close and big, I start counting the "par" in my head before I actually make it, and I lose my posture, my sequence, everything turns to jelly. Or alternately I will hit the best 9-iron of my life and fly the green. I'm flying the green a lot lately. At the range I can put those short clubs on the green almost every time, but during a round the nerves/pressure very often get the best of me. It's something I plan to work on during the rainy season.

Since they're bound to get prematurely destroyed, maybe just buy cheaper shoes. I play in GreenJoys spikeless, they are less than $40 US, if you shop around online. I love them. These replaced an expensive pair of Nike golf cleats, which were my first pair. With the mud and rain out here it's just not worth spending the extra money on nice shoes IMO.

9 Hole Handicap Would be Lower than 18-Hole Handicap
Kalnoky replied to woodzie264's topic in Golf Talk
Yes. Very often unfocused on the Back 9. I mostly rotate the same 3 golf courses all summer, so course knowledge is not a problem for me.. Last 3 times at the turn I had a real good chance to shoot 85 or better. What happens is I (or we) will eventually run into the log jam of slow play that teed off earlier. This often happens because the bigger groups will stop at the clubhouse for sandwiches and beer. Once my rhythm is thrown off I will have a few rough holes. I start checking my phone and getting distracted. For this reason I now avoid weekends. Fortunately I have found couple of members I can play with on the weekdays after work. All this to say I absolutely think it's possible to play worse on the back 9 than the front. -
I voted the Tournament of Champions in Hawaii. The tournaments seem to move steadily eastward after this, to San Diego, Palm Springs area, Phoenix, and so on into the Southeastern US. Hawaii just seems like a natural starting point for the season. But full disclosure, I've only been watching golf a few years now, so I don't have a great sense for it.

I remember one guy with a big straw hat and transition lenses was riding alongside me (I always walk) stuffing his face with a giant hamburger. He wasn't even really playing golf, just sort of hitting mulligans everywhere and not even bothering to pick up his balls if they went astray. Just a super lazy person. He kept telling me how happy he was to be divorced. He kind of sounded like/resembled Milton Waddams from Office Space.

Practicing With Video - Tips That May Hopefully Help You

I do the exact same thing -
I like it. A lot of those you can do at home as long as you have the resistance bands.

42/47 on Friday afternoon for an 89. This was a fun round. 47/47 on Saturday for a 94. This round started very good as I was even through 3 holes. But then the traffic got bad. The start/stop/start/stop of Saturday mornings is just not worth it. In the NFL they call it icing the kicker. I just really struggle when I can't get a consistent pace and rhythm. I'm sticking to league nights and twilight for the last month of the season.

The food in Texas is second to none IMO. The BBQ & Tex-Mex is incredible.

That's some useful advice. The 5W gives me anxiety also. It is a 50/50 club for me. 50% incredible, 50% heart stopping terrible. I only use it if I absolutely have to.

Some courses have a separate men's club and league nights. The men's club hosts a lot of "hit-n-giggle" (they call it that, not me) events with different formats. It's more about socializing and having fun. The league night is stroke play and that is more competitive. They post the scores on a big board for everyone to see. Although, in fairness, the league night around here has a few guys w/ 30+ handicap. They just like to play golf - everyone is welcome. Anyway, it's worth asking the clubhouse for more details. Either way you go, people are pretty encouraging, you'd be surprised. Sometimes I really enjoy the serenity of playing alone. But sounds like you're a very social guy. I bet if you give it a chance you'd probably really enjoy even a "competitive" league.

Don't try to carry the hazards unless you can do it comfortably. There could be some bad lies on the other side. The pictures in the scorecard/yardage book are sometimes a bit off or not to scale. You just don't know until you've played it the course a few times.

Anyone Carry and Use a Really Old Club?
Kalnoky replied to satchmodog's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I usually bag a Ping Anser putter from the 1980's. So that's prob 30 years old. Works fantastic, no plans to replace it.
