What could he do in the abbriv. off season ? Remember, he only has til December, I would guess he needs to go back oversea's and commit to places he won last year.

Is it possible ?

Past players who were able to raise that much ?

There must be a particular workout that will do it...

I love the kid, he has to one of the only pro players in any sport to jump into the spotlight and remain normal, likable.. Just afraid it is a huge uphill climb and will sooner or later weigh on his mind.

21 yards behind Day at ; 292

It shows who is the better golfer.

Danny Lee at 283 has had a great year. How much better would it be at 305 ?

Jason Bohn at 277... Β I think one can make a legit argument that he had a better year than

Let's hope that lower scoring doesn't entice the PGA to back it up even further. Time to stop the BALL mfg. from making it even longer. Maybe go to a one ball system contracted out each year by the PGA. The players can endorse what they want, must use designated type during play.

Compare a guy like Woodland to Bohn and you see. Bohn is much the better golfer, but since Woodland cat hit it longer, scores easier, not BETTER, but easier. Better in every meaningful category. Go look at Woodlands stats on the PGA site. Take away 400 yards from every course they play and he wouldn't be on tour. Yet, because he can launch it, he plays a game others can't. Bogus for REAL golf...

What the hell would going overseas do, for adding 10yds to his driver? I don't agree with about 85% of your postΒ  but it's all good in the big scheme of things.

If he wanted to add yards to his driver, I suspect hitting more up on it would do the trick. I don't have the numbers, but in sure he's hitting a few degrees down.

Right, if he's a little down with the driver this would be the easiest way to do it. But l think his AoA is actually 1-2 up. His clubhead speed is 113 mph while Day's is 120.

Is it really? Wow. Never would've guessed that. If he's averaged 292 with 113 mph, that's pretty short. On the launch monitors at PING, I was hitting 1.5 up, and carrying almost 292, and that's with a swing speed that's 2 mph slower than his. Maybe his spin rate is wonky? Idk. That just seems really short for that positive an AOA. That's not to say that he could hit it as far as Day does, of course, but I think he should be averaging closer to 300-305.

Did some searching and found THIS . 12 seems a little low for swinging up 2 degrees. What do you think @iacas ?

The radar metrics above indicate an upward strike. Based on previous data acquired, I would say that Spieth’s attack angle when he is playing in an event is probably in the +1.5 degree to +2.5 degree range.

He needs to hit the gym with Rory and add some muscle.Β  His lack of distance off the tee really shows this week being partnered with Fowler and Day.

2700 spin rate for an upward strike between 1.5-2.5 seems excessive to me.

What this data says to me (and while I'm familiar and perhaps 'versed' in this stuff, I'm no expert) is that he's hitting slightly down on the driver. That low of a launch angle, with that high of spin, would lead me to believe that.

Fowler is a runt so muscle isn't the issue. Speith is like 5 inches taller and like 30lbs heavier. Trust me I wish working out was the key to big drives. I spent ten years in the gym before I ever touched a golf club and most of my drives go about 220.

Going to the gym can very much add yards; itΒ depends on the workouts you do. Also, it may not add club head speed directly, but it might strength Spieth's core and allow him to swing harder and retain control.

The obvious answer is to switch to Taylormade's new driver, get the 17 extra yards, and then back off of it a little.

Jordan also hits the D2 driver which adds more spin, he obviously is making this choice for accuracy versus hitting the D3, my spin rates were almost 700RPM less with the D3 if I remember right.

It might but I'm not sure why someone who won two majors this year would even need to focus much on driving further. His current abilities don't seem to hinder him from winning.

Because the farther you hit it, the easier it is to win. If he can get around 300 on average, that's a club less into a green; plus, if he's hitting his driver father, he's probably hitting his irons farther as well. Could be as much as two clubs less than a similar shot before he got stronger; for example, if on a par four he went "driver, 6 iron", it could end up like "driver 8 iron". that's a pretty big change, I think.

Distance is important, at every level of the game.

HisΒ lack of distance doesn'tΒ hinder him when he's putting lights out compared to the rest of the field but when he's at his best and Day is at his bestΒ Justin is going to have a tough time beating Day due to distance.

maybe unfold his arm a bit and give him more leverage.

yet I dont see spite wanting to hit it hard from the tee. he seams in control a lot.
