After reading the Trump thread, it is apparent that there are a lot of liberals on board.  Who among you are brave enough to say you are a Conservative.  I was once a Bluedog Democrat.  Now, I'm not.  I haven't taken the step to say I am a Republican but that is the logical next step.  Of course, to be Conservative is to be evil in liberal eyes.  To be liberal is to be a Socialist or Communist in many Conservative eyes.  I try not to be a hater but find it hard.  I'm a straight forward person and so, don't mix words with anyone.  I am not the type to force my opinions on anyone BUT if you want some excitement in your life, try to force your beliefs on me.  It won't be pretty.

I find it harder to watch the main stream news or TV shows.  The liberal agenda is in every show now.  The news has not been real news for many years.  In fact, my wife and I often say we want to puke watching the news.  Anyway, thought I'd ask.  If you don't want to respond, I'll understand.

It's a golf site, and my guess is most are conservative.

But you're right ... When I want to puke, I tune into Fox News. :-)  I rarely watch much news on television.

The "agenda" talk sounds like paranoia. I don't like labels such as liberal, conservative, as most of us are a blend. But it's tough to define the general populace as anything other than liberal, conservative, extremists. When referring to individuals on the site, I think it's best not to use labels unless you feel you have no alternative. But then, we all fall into the trap of labels because it's easy.

... and I watch Fox News because I'd like to get some news from a non liberal agenda.  I take it for what it is worth.  I never miss The Factor unless I am coaching.  I never watch Hannity.  I admire people like Juan Williams and understand that he truly deserves recognition for his work "Eyes on the Prize."

Derrek, thanks.  I could care less if a Liberal didn't like me calling them what they are.  Just like being a Conservative, wear it if you believe it.  It cracks me up that someone would attack Fox News as if CBS, ABC, NBC are real news stations without liberal agendas.  Late Night last night was nothing but an hour of attacking Republicans.  Yet, Liberals never see the absolute and total attempt to brainwash America.  Our nation is headed for a great divide and when the silent majority finally steps up to be counted, I think that the main stream media is going to be shocked.  Well, I'll end my little rant now.  LOL

Nobody claimed the other stations weren't biased. There is a pretty smart crowd on this site and plenty of us are aware of the US media situation. What I don't understand is why folks like you need to contribute to the polarization. You've been in both camps, I'd like to think you would realize you've only done the equivalent of switching from Heinz to Hunts.

Here is a cool survey done on news sources. I would go with the following. The Economist, NPR, USA Today. These three are not big network shows.

For the Conservatives, what do you think about the Republican field?  Not a Trump person.  Do like a few of his ideas.  Like Rubio.  I think Ben Carson is a very good man.  Too many candidates are still running and so, support for major candidates is watered down just a little.  I can't believe the Republicans continue to shoot themselves in the foot.  Oh for a 3rd Party Candidate that could truly unite our country!

It depends.

I'm socially more liberal, but still have some limits due to my beliefs. However, I still tolerate other peoples decisions, and if they are friends then I accept their life decisions. Friends are friends. Other people need to decide for themselves how they should live their lives. I am conservative regarding my own life choices and of course economically conservative. I can only hope that my children follow my lead which I set as best as I can.

As a family, we rarely watch any mainstream TV/Cable/Dish of any kind, and prefer to choose what we watch with Netflix or other on line sources. None of us have a lot of time for watching media anyway. My kids make their own choices now, and I am hoping that they make good choices. In everything, actually. You can't force your kids to believe what you do, you can lead by the best example you can make and hope for the best.

I haven't seriously thought about the candidates, but it's looking like we need someone who is just on this side of the dividing line between republicans and democrats.

I think the field is terrible. It's embarrassing calling myself a Republican anymore because I have to qualify every position of theirs I disagree with when I tell people that. I hate how they've gone from a party that was proud of knowing more than everyone else to embracing a culture of Bible-thumping anti-intellectualism and anti-science. I appreciate individual candidates like Jeb embracing new ideas for problems like trying Common Core and Paul standing up for privacy rights, but they revert to pandering to the fringe too easily, and so I worry about whether they'd be pragmatic in office.

Oh, Gawd... more general hash that says nothing.

Agenda ... and never spouts the so-called agenda. What is it? To make our kids gay, endorsing abortion, taking away all your guns, making us all god-less heathens, having the whole country on welfare, taxing people at 90%, getting rid of our national defense?

There are people on the extreme on both the so-called liberal and conservative side. You may be on the knucklehead extreme right from your general comments that spout nothing. This thread is useless. If you have a position, take it up on one of the threads re Trump, guns, religion, etc.

I have found it is difficult to have a discussion with those who have a closed mind, or who have already decided they know how the world works and have the solutions.

Regarding the Heinz to Hunts analogy, I do understand the point but disagree with the substance of each.  Do both parties lie to the masses?  Sure!  Are both really the product of big money?  Sure!  However, as I've grown a lot older, been a dad, struggled to earn a living working every conceivable job, ... I've grown to understand why I call myself a Conservative.

With regards to, "Bible Thumpers," I guess I'm one of those.  Funny how tolerant the left is of their ideas etc. and how intolerant they are of anyone opposed to them while attacking anyone with religious beliefs.  As President Obama said, "And it's not surprising then they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy toward people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations.

Now, many Conservatives are doing the same. At some point the whole notion of what a Conservative is will be seen in its new light and with drastic changes.  JMHO!

Growing up I was very conservative and still am more conservative than not. Lately It has been really hard not to get very cynical about the whole deal. It seems that very few of our politicians are doing much besides preparing for their next election. The rhetoric out of both sides seems to get more extreme with each year that passes.

Maybe this next debate will help me find a candidate I can actually support.

I wonder what contributed to WSJ being 5th on that ranking list even though they are the only media outlet to receive "More trusted than distrusted" on the graph from the groups showing.

Mr. Desmond, you must be quite the intellectual. I doubt that I could keep up with one as intelligent as you.

Per the gay comment, that is not my business what anyone is.  However, for people of Faith, including myself, on the day of judgement, we will be held accountable for our actions and the Bible very specifically states and opinion.  So, go on now and attack my religious views.  I don't understand how you or anyone else can call abortion anything other than murder.  It is the murder of the defenseless.  Liberals call it a choice.  If they are Christians, they had better hope that in the Day of Judgement, Christ agrees.  Per welfare, I doubt you understand the system at all.  Few, if any, of these people in the neighborhood I grew up in lack a smart phone, cigs, their booze, cable TV, and they laugh all the way to the bank on the backs of the working people.  I grew up in.  I know the system and how it is gamed.  Still, you can go ahead and call me an uncaring ___hole because you know so much.

Hey, Mr. Desmond, thanks for giving me permission, no ordering me, to take my thoughts to another thread.  How nice of you to do so.

Per my extreme views, I'd say I'm rather moderate.  Then, again, I'd have to weigh that in degrees with my family.  Mr. Desmond, you'd have a blast if you met them.  LOL  One is even infamous or famous with books written about him.  Then again, I'm thinking you wouldn't do so well.  Hey, take care,

I agree with you and think the Republican party could make a huge resurgence in time with enough younger people if they were to do the following things and it is not many but they are huge sticking points:

1).  They could reject the religious right that is extremist, anti-science.

2).  They could be accepting of abortion as law of the land and state an understanding that even if they were to overturn Roe v. Wade abortions would still happen but be far less safe.  In this case some candidates could say they are pro-life but pro-practical and pro-realist as well.

3).  Do more to show they really embrace all cultures and races (they are doing better with this part at least) and women's issues, not just christian women's issues.

4).  Apologize for past indiscretions and behavior and disown the old guard (this will be very difficult, to move the party away from the powers that be but over time can happen) that clings to all of the archaic beliefs.

I would not have a hard time being a republican if they would do this because I believe in less is more when it comes to government.  I am I guess socially liberal in that I feel abortion is necessary in some instances even if it is quite uncomfortable and troubling to think about (can't imagine how difficult a decision that must be).  People of the same sex should be able to have a legal union also known as marriage, and we all deserve a fair chance, a fair opportunity to succeed.  I am fiscally conservative and think that we need to focus more on domestic policy and spending on our own citizens as opposed to trying to be everything to every country and every person.  There is too much free services being given away to anyone who can get here no matter how you do it, and too many people breaking the laws to have anchor babies and then pull on the heart strings of bleeding hearts.  I am a very compassionate person but I am also a very practical one and the direction we are going is not a good one financially.

Heinz is way better.

If just talking about the merits of ketchup I agree, it's not even a close contest.

Mr. Desmond, you must be quite the intellectual. I doubt that I could keep up with one as intelligent as you.

Okay, so you outlaw abortion.  Then what?  It magically goes away?  Well, that won't happen, and as a matter of fact, when abortion was illegal in this country people were still having them.  If they had the means they traveled to a country where it was not illegal, but far more often they had the "surgery" done by people who should not be performing them in places they should not be performed.  Banning abortion will stop abortion about the same as the Volstead act stopped people from drinking.

I personally will say this:  I do believe that after a certain amount of time, abortion is a very cruel thing and I do not agree with partial birth abortion which is now banned.  To me, that was clearly murder.

Even though I'm from FL, I don't care for Rubio at all.  Ben Carson and Carly Fiorina.  Two smart, articulate, accomplished, unabashed conservatives.

I promise, the thought of that ticket scares the hell out of the Left too, because they understand that a significant % of their own base will continue to vote based on race and gender, without regard to any real understanding of the issues.
