i dont understand the differences between the expensive shoes and the cheaper shoes. why spend close to $200 for the new Footjoy Synergys when you can get a perfectly good pair of shoes for $40? what makes the Synergys and other shoes so expensive?

Good shoes are usually "expensive", especially men's shoes. I picked-up a pair of Ecco golf shoes in Vegas and they've been great. Very comfortable.

The trick is to make sure the more expensive shoe is actually a better shoe and doesn't just have an extra "swoosh" on it.

Definitely check out the previous year's models too. If you're lucky enough to find something in your size, you can usually get a mad deal on a great shoe.

To answer your question there are a lot of differences and some similarities. The technology is different, such as the material and the way the shoe is developed. Some shoes are waterproof with a 3 year warranty, 200 dollar shoes, and some shoes are waterproof for 1 year or no years. Then you are paying for the name brand on the side of the shoe. You are paying for a better shoe, it is just up to you whether you think it is worth it or not.

I wouldn't buy expensive shoes. I found Nike SP-3 on eBay for $43 including shipping. They do the trick for me.

$40 shoes usually don't get the job done for me... I want the 2yr waterproof as I walk a lot and have found ones with less WILL usually leak after a year or so. Also, the $100 shoes seem to hold up better. I am a size 13W, so I can't usually find older models on the cheap... in fact, shoes are the one golf item I usually buy this years model in and don't go bargain shopping for. Don't get me wrong, I look for deals, but my shoes usually run $70-$100. For the record, I always buy FJ's... as I have tried many others, but nothing has come close comfort wise for me. I have tried on some Eccos that were nice, but couldn't find a wide, and didn't want to spend $200.

For me, Golf shoes are different than other shoes. Golf Shoes are chosen purely for Comfort for me. I have a pair of regular FJ brown-and-white saddles that are very comfortable. It(Shelling out $100+) is worth it for Golf Shoes that are comfortable

I have lived my life by a few simple rules:
1) Do what you say your going to do.
2) If someone offers you a breath mint, take it.
3) Life is too short to wear cheap shoes.
That said, I recently found a great deal. I have a white and a black pair of Dryjoys. The model I wear lists for $170 and typically sells for $140. I wanted an extra pair of whites for summer (I play 4-5 times a week). I went to "Golfshoesonly.com" and looked at their "Blemish" section. The had my model in several color combos for $85 with free shipping. I took a chance. They arrived in 48 hours and, for the life of me, I can't find the blemish.

Comfort and Durability. The same goes for any footwear.

If you have to ask 'why buy expensive golf shoes,' you do not need to buy expensive golf shoes.

I don't like hats, but never play without a cap.

I've got a pair of Footjoy's worth $120 today and am very satisfied with them. Good shoes is very important, they carry all my weight and give stability. I could probably swing fine in cheaper shoes, but I buy quality shoes to get good support while walking. During a round you walk many miles, having anything but a comfortable pair of shoes on my feet is out of the question. I also buy quality shoes for normal use off the course.

A great waterproof pair of shoes that fit perfect and give great stability is ten times better than a cheap pair. They also last longer. I'm not surprised if I can use a quality pair 2-3 years longer than a cheap pair. How much money would I save by buying a cheap pair if they wear and needs to be replaced faster?

I'm a equipmentaholic, I got lots of golf clothes and never wear anything scrappy on the course. On a practice round I don't wear my best pair of trousers, but I always use my golf shoes, they are my only contact with the ground. For my feet they are just as important as the grip is for my swing.

Normally I don't brand shop as a rule, but I managed to score not 1 but 2 pairs of those new Adidas Tour 360 3.0 LTD, black on white & white on black for under $100.00 each on Ebay. It took me a while to finally win a bid on them for that cheap, but patience pays off. Wow...they have to be one of the most comfortable pairs of golf shoes I have owned. 2yr waterproof warranty, hand-finished full-grain leather and that 3D FitFoam sock liner makes for a great shoe. Very impressed...

I have one pair of Footjoy Contours and one pair of Footjoy Golf Sandals. For me, Footjoy has always just made a better fitting shoe for a price that I can afford to pay. Both pairs were under $130 combined.

For some strange reason I never have good luck when I buy more expensive shoes, regular or golf. I happened to find a good deal on my Adidas spikes (less than $50) and they are more comfortable than all of my dress or casual shoes, and even in Portland winter I haven't had any problems with water seepage. I wish I could find another pair just like them in a different color.

    • Agree. The next omission needs to be that ridiculous team concept. Nobody cares about a team when they really don’t represent anything except being a group of diminished morality and/or washed up pro golfers. Or wait, we’ve also got total nobodies who’ve accomplished nothing who now get a participation trophy! Doesn’t that sound invigorating!
    • LIV moving to 72 holes is a subtle admission that 54 holes was nothing but a joke all along.
    • I was going to start a thread, but this seems like the place.  Yesterday I played my matchplay match at my local club.  My opponent is a notorious sandbagger by reputation.  The pro once pulled his tournament rounds from the past several years and said that it is impossible his tournament rounds are legit based on his handicap. here is what happened last night.  I am getting 4 shots from him.  His current handicap index is 15.3 i shot 45 on the front.   Was down 4 after nine, he had three birdies and shot even par. I was closed out on thirteen, we halved with a bogey.  That bogey put him one over par for his round.   He then took a triple on 14 and then left. As if that wasn’t bad enough, he lied about his score.   I wrote down on my scorecard what the score was.  He put higher values that didn’t affect the outcome of the match to pad his score and apparently make it not look as obvious.   He shot 36 on the front, but claimed 40.  The higher values for his score were in the online scoring app our club uses.  He did it this way: I won #7. He had a 2 foot putt for par that if he made would still lose the hole.   He picked up and said it didn’t matter since I won.  He took a 5 instead of a 4 after picking up a gimme. on #8 his approach shot on this par 4 was 8 inches.  I verbally conceded the putt but I had hit into a hazard.  I finished the hole with a 6.  Instead of birdie he put in for par. on #9, another par 4, his approach was to 18 inches.  I missed my par putt and then knowing how close I verbally conceded the putt.  I missed my bogey putt, he never conceded mine.  Instead of birdie he put down a bogey. He padded his score by 4 shots on the front.  And then did again on 10.  I rinsed one and made 6 on a par 4.  I putted out and he was fishing balls out of the lake so I drove off to the next tee.  He had 15 feet laying two but claimed a 5.     love to know the odds of a 15 handicap being even thru 12 holes on a round of golf.
