What tee box do you play from?

Red? White? Blue? Which do you play from? Personally I play from the blue because even though I shoot 110 on avg. I feel I'm cheating myself if I play from any closer.

I play the blues. Which on the courses I play most puts it at a 124 to 135 slope and 71 to 72.5 rating.

Yea, the course I've been playing lately(which is 5$ after 5pm :) ). Doesn't have a slope or course rating, so I just use the standard 72 and 113 for it and play form the blues, it might be a little bit higher because it it's a pretty hilly course with small greens, but not knowing doesn't really bother me to much because I don't have a handicap yet anyway haha.

How does one know when they should play from the blues? My handicap is 12.7 that is with only 9 scores posted(all from white tees) as I have just recently started taking golf serious. I generally drive the ball between 210 - 225 with an occasional drive between 230-245. Should I be playing the blue tees?

White tees, though on my course it makes little difference whether I play white or blue except on a couple of holes.

All of them. A couple of courses I frequent just play entirely different depending on which tee box you play from. Like it's an entirely different course. The decision depends on how I'm hitting it that day, and whether I'm out just having a good time, working on something in particular, or playing a competitive round.

I'll play whichever tees are closest to 6600 yards (at sea level). This is usually the blues. If there is a ridiculously severe wind 30mph+ (we get a lot of that in the spring), I might play from the whites on the long par 3s (200yds+) and the blues on the other holes.

play from where you are most comfertable.

I play from where ever the others in my group want to play from. one of my buddies only plays form the whites the other only plays form the blues so its neat to get to play form them both because it def changes the way i have to manage my shots.

Assuming:

Blues- Tips
Whites- Men's
Reds- Women's

I play whites every time. Tried the tips a couple times- found out I wasn't close to ready for that. I have fun from the whites and it's obviously still super challenging.

Will be a sweet day when I graduate to the tips though!

If there are more than 3 tee options, I choose the ones that are in the 6300 yard neighborhood.

I play 6150yd whites on my home course. My rationale is that I've just recently started breaking 90 somewhat regularly. I don't see the point in playing longer tees when I'm still basically a bogey golfer. I'd say I'm a little longer then average off the tee, a good drive for me is 270yds (reiterate that's a good drive, not average) so it has nothing to do with distance off the tee. I just believe I should learn to score with wedge-8i into the greens before moving back to longer tees. I figure once I get down to 10hcp or so, it will make sense to move back.

That said, I've played the blacks and really didn't dip in score, and first time I shot 90 was from 6600yd blacks. I played 6700-6800yd courses in florida this yr and didn't see much dip in score either.

I'd play from the tips every time if I could, but with the group I play with we usually play from whatever are ~6500-6700 yards. On courses with 3 sets of tees, this is usually the tips. On courses with 4 sets of tees, this is usually one up from the Championship Tees. It's not that I'm really that long (the shortest hitter on Sand Trap at only ~240-260 yards per drive), but I like it as difficult as possible and I like hitting the hybrids into the greens -- I used to hate hitting long irons.

It is kinda funny... I play the tips or back tees unless I would be a distraction such as the only one back there -- but, I score about the same whether from the championship tees or the mens' tees. I prefer the tips because I don't get in as much trouble off the tee, and I am not tempted to hit hero shots. I think people should play the tees that allow tee shots of be in the course designer's normal approach landing areas -- so second shots are somewhat similar. That does not mean people should be hitting the same approach irons. Some will hit an 8 iron where others would hit a 4 iron, but the approach distances should be within 10 to 30 yards (give or take.) The longer you play the game the more this will make sense. If you are hitting woods or hybrids into every par four, move up. If you are hitting wedges all day, move back. If you are on the tips and hitting wedges all day, go to qualifying school.
