On 6/4/10, I shot IMO the lowest score I possibly couldve gotten since I started last year. I shot an 88 with the following data:

8 drives on fairway (3 on a little bit of rough but the green visible)
6 GIP
7 one putts
3 birdies
2 pars
6 bogies
5 double bogies
one 8 on a par 4 (which screwed up my score)

overall I knew I was shooting well but I didn't know I was going to break 90. The course is called cream ridge golf course in cream ridge nj. I played from the whites and definitely was an epic day for someone who only played for a year.

Good round! 3 birdies I would say is pretty good for your handicap. Congrats!

thanks everyone. the 8 I fudged up really bad. I topped the ball bad and didnt go much. then stupid me, I used a 3 wood (which I havent really done good with) the didnt go too well.

I have been consistent on my backswing, but I still feel like im coming over the top which results me to fade the ball way too many times.

Great job. Breaking 90 is a milestone and it makes it much easier to do again knowing you have "been here before".

Congrats!

You didn't break 90 before now with a 13.5 handicap?

13.5 means you should be shooting mid 80s every round. doesn't make sense to me either

Congratulations. Three birdies in a round isn't bad at all, definitely shows potential to get your scores even lower.

Are you using some software program or web interface to calculate it or are you just guessing?

I used an app on the iphone and gave me an idea of what my handicap would be.

But thanks for the compliment. to be honest, I was just diddling around the phone and found it. I used the app and figured it would help me out a bit. But seriously, I dont really care. As long as I get my scores lower, Im happy. Im not planning on joining any competitions anytime soon. LOL

That's absolutely not true. A player's handicap is intended to show a player's potential, not his average score. A few low rounds will bring a handicap way down, but it doesn't mean the golfer will always shoot low. A golfer will usually only play to their handicap 1 out of 4 times.

To the OP, great job! I remember breaking 90 to be one of the best times I ever had on the course.

Um it is true mate, it means he will average from low to high 80s. He said he had never broken 90 and you can't get to a 13 without breaking 90 unless you play on ridiculously hard courses where the rating is through the roof and you shoot 90 consistantly.

Yes, but the should be shooting just over it then.

Getting within 5 strokes of 13 is a little bit off........

Or....as in my case, you play par 3s and executive courses that allow you to shoot great scores. Like me, for example, my profile on OOBgolf.com shows me at a 7.5 handicap because I play an executive 9 course quite freaquently where I shoot around par. No way would I shoot around par on a regulation 18 hole course. I'm usually in the high 80s, low 90s.

Regardless....... to the OPseter......congrats on breaking the 90 marker!!!

Yes, but the should be shooting just over it then.

Not the case. He should hit his handicap 20-25% of the time. the highest 50% of his scores arent even factored into the equation.

    • Eh. He broke ONE of Tiger's records. Youngest to be ranked #1 in AJGA. It didn't help that Tiger's birthday is in late December, or that Tiger didn't play many AJGA events before he was 15. Did he do any of these things? TIGER WOODS' AMATEUR VICTORIES YEAR WIN(S) 1984 10-and- under Junior World Golf Championships Boys    1985 10-and- under Junior World Golf Championships Boys    1988 Boy's 11-12 Junior World Golf Championships   1989 Boy's 13-14 Junior World Golf Championships   1990 Boy's 13-14 Junior World Golf Championships, Insurance Youth Golf Classic   1991 U.S. Junior Amateur, Boys 15–17 Junior World Golf Championships, Orange Bowl International Junior Look at some other AJGA Players of the Year. How many of these names do you recognize? A few, for sure. I assure y'all, I'm not trying to pee in your Cheerios. I just don't get what the point is. Okay. I get that, then. Thanks.
    • Day 56: 4/19/2024 Okay, even though I'll be teeing it up in a tournament in less than a week. I couldn't find time to get to the range today.  I spent time on the indoor putting mat.  And I spent time in front of the mirror with my 7 iron. Then again later with the driver.  I also thoroughly cleaned all my clubs.
    • Just stumbled onto the article.  Totally random and thought it might be interested to hear other thoughts. maybe I am tired of all the LIV crap and  this just caught my attention.
    • Day 1: Spent some time hitting some balls. Working on my hips and a “soft” and straight trail arm.
    • Slight digression on the way to my point. Back in the day there were a lot of people who said that Tiger won because of “the Tiger effect” where people pushed too hard and made mistakes trying to catch him and fell by the wayside. I thought that was BS. It was just that he was that much better than them. I don’t think anything has changed my mind on that.    The hype about Miles Russell is very limited. I’ve seen nothing about him outside of some fairly hardcore golf websites. But I think that the reason those people are talking about him is because he is very good. Same as Tiger. And like I said he just broke one of Tiger’s records. That gets hardcore golf fans to pay attention.
