I am looking to purchase some new wedges and would like to know what are the best spinning wedges? I'm sure this has been covered but I know a lot have changed for groove rules. I don't care about the rule change because I'm obviously not a pro but which ones are still old groves in 2010? If I ubderstand correct, the red vokeys are the old grooves? What else spins awsome that is not a gimick club (spin doctor etc).

I think that the VR's are good, but not the dual cavity CC crap, or the Vokey Spin milled, and again, not the CC crap. The Cg15's are a maybe, but I honestly think that those little grooves don't make a difference. I also heard that the CG14's were crazy spinny, so give those a try.

In the bag:
Driver: 907 D2/Proforce V2 R-flex
Hybrid: Burner '07 3 Hybrid/Re-Ax Shaft/19* (4* draw bias)

Go for the vokey's or cleveland.

They're both great wedges.

I have used the Wilson TW9, Vokey and Cleveland CG15. The Wilson were solid but also a bit heavy, the Vokey's are very nice, but they feel dead.... I like the CG15 best ......

Many friends who tried my CG15's liked them better than their Vokey's.

For spin .... they are all almost the same.

Now here's a fine reason not to take the advice of strangers.

In the race of life, always back self-interest. At least you know it's trying.

lol, I was thinking "how could he find them dead"

He mustn't have been striking them well.

I don't really think any wedge is going to give you much more spin, if any. If you're not spinning the ball, check contact first. My sand wedge has almost no grooves left, but I can still spin it just fine with good contact from a clean lie. Out of the rough, nothing is going to really be consistent, so asking which wedge spins the most, as you can see, will give you a multitude of different answers mostly based on preference and anecdotal information.

I would be more concerned with feel, fit, shape, and aesthetics than spin. I'd rather have a wedge that feels good and has the right bounce than one that gives me a few extra RPM of spin.

I know the Vokeys have red emblems for the amature wedges, but how do you tell which VR has the old grooves? Do they still make the VR'S in the 2024 rule grooves?

I like the cg15s, compared to my old adams(set wedges) they spin like crazy. However i have heard great things about the SM Vokey wedges too. I would just get whatever you feel best looking down at.

Anything with box grooves that you like will work just fine. I prefer Vokeys and Cleveland.

A couple of weeks ago I put a set of 48*, 58*, and 62* Callaway X-Forged wedges in my bag. 5 Rounds later and I couldn't be more pleased with my decision. The 58* and the 62* have the "C-Grind" soles and the "Mack-Daddy" grooves...great for all-around normal play, and if you come down on a steeper angle they will stop after one bounce and zip backwards 3 to 8 feet depending on how hard you swing. It REALLY makes a difference when your chasing that pin that is behind a bunker and you don't want to come up short and leave yourself in the sand. When you can hit it over the bunker and PAST the pin then spin it back it makes those shots a lot more fun to play!

I have CG15's and I prefer them now they are getting worn.

No joke, they span too much when I first got them.

Same as my pitching wedge.

Its more about the ball, the lie and the contact than anything else.

I have seen the club pro spin a 10 year old wedge that was fit for the garbage

    • I have nothing to add other than I freaking love her swing and I think she's hot as hell and some of my golfing buddies disagree so I fought them
    • I’m not sure I agree. It’s just what the majority find more entertaining. Most people prefer women’s gymnastics over men in the Olympics. How much hype is there with the men’s compared to the women’s? I bet you can rattle off several big names in women’s gymnastics and only a handful of men. Women’s tennis …same thing. And sure enough, their purses are the same. However, WNBA, awful…LPGA, not near as much interest than PGA. Don’t think it’s really that complicated IMO.

    • If you walk up to a food/drink kiosk at Magic Kingdom and ask the person for a cup of "magic water" they will give you a small cup of Sprite for free. About 3 fingers worth. They don't sell alcohol at MK anymore so I go over to one of the courses while she hangs out there.
