Oosthuizen hits it a long way, I think he outdrove Casey a couple of times. Did ESPN or any Euro commentators or anyone in general provide an explanation? His swing looks effortless and he's not a big guy either.

I think Nick Price said that he's a lot stronger than he looks; but what I heard and read about him was that his balance is absolutely perfect. This allows him to hit the sweet spot *every* time while swinging hard but not overswinging.

Oosthuizen averaged 319.3 per drive 55/64 fairways hit, and 60 GIR while Casey averaged 313.6 51/64 fairways hit, and 61 GIR over the 4 days.

From where I was sitting, I thought he was blowing it past him all day.

Casey wasn't getting a lot of roll in the gorse.

Louis was hitting the ball pure in the right part of the fairway. He's one of a several players who drove 18 - didn't seem any longer than bulk of the long guys.

I think the reason people are talking about it is because he has a very smooth, non aggressive and relatively short swing and still hits it miles.

Yup, he was hitting it right out there with the other smooth swinging long hitters.

Like who? Ernie? He is the only one even close to Louis' laid back tempo. Everyone else takes a rip at it.

umm... not sure which louis you were watching, but he was slapping the hell outta that ball. make no mistake about it, the pros are trying to hit it hard, it's just that when they do it, they're generally still in rhythm and their upper and lower bodies are in sync.

This topic is basically how to get effortless power which louis clearly has or he has fooled alot of people who have been commenting on it. Jeez you guys just look for something to argue about. Yes he hits the ball hard but it doesn't look like he is as opposed to tiger, phil, jb holmes, all the long drive guys etc etc.

He had a 100% pure swing going all week long, plain and simple. Did anyone see what his ball flight was? I didn't catch enough of the telecast to ever see his ball flight traced or to hear the announcers describe it. Thanks.

The BBC commentators mentioned several times that he has a very penetrating trajectory, which helps him in windy conditions. The guy grew up on the Cape coast in South Africa and it blows like hell here.

On the European tour he avg. 290-295 - Casey´s avg is longer. We should always judge these things in the big pictures not just within a couple of holes were things like bounces/wind conditions and so on have a big effect.

Here is his swing - looks pretty standard to me if you ask me...

FW Burner 15°
Burner Rescue 19°

I'm not much of a student of pro swings, but I really like his swing. Head completely still, perfect balance, dead parallel at top. To me it looks very technically sound, but he's still "loose". Can't say why he hits it any further then other pros, they all have great swings, but I'd say a lot has to do with his width in the backswing, and the perfect coordination of hips/shoulder/arms on the downswing...looks like it's perfect every time.

    • Eh. He broke ONE of Tiger's records. Youngest to be ranked #1 in AJGA. It didn't help that Tiger's birthday is in late December, or that Tiger didn't play many AJGA events before he was 15. Did he do any of these things? TIGER WOODS' AMATEUR VICTORIES YEAR WIN(S) 1984 10-and- under Junior World Golf Championships Boys    1985 10-and- under Junior World Golf Championships Boys    1988 Boy's 11-12 Junior World Golf Championships   1989 Boy's 13-14 Junior World Golf Championships   1990 Boy's 13-14 Junior World Golf Championships, Insurance Youth Golf Classic   1991 U.S. Junior Amateur, Boys 15–17 Junior World Golf Championships, Orange Bowl International Junior Look at some other AJGA Players of the Year. How many of these names do you recognize? A few, for sure. I assure y'all, I'm not trying to pee in your Cheerios. I just don't get what the point is. Okay. I get that, then. Thanks.
    • Day 56: 4/19/2024 Okay, even though I'll be teeing it up in a tournament in less than a week. I couldn't find time to get to the range today.  I spent time on the indoor putting mat.  And I spent time in front of the mirror with my 7 iron. Then again later with the driver.  I also thoroughly cleaned all my clubs.
    • Just stumbled onto the article.  Totally random and thought it might be interested to hear other thoughts. maybe I am tired of all the LIV crap and  this just caught my attention.
    • Day 1: Spent some time hitting some balls. Working on my hips and a “soft” and straight trail arm.
    • Slight digression on the way to my point. Back in the day there were a lot of people who said that Tiger won because of “the Tiger effect” where people pushed too hard and made mistakes trying to catch him and fell by the wayside. I thought that was BS. It was just that he was that much better than them. I don’t think anything has changed my mind on that.    The hype about Miles Russell is very limited. I’ve seen nothing about him outside of some fairly hardcore golf websites. But I think that the reason those people are talking about him is because he is very good. Same as Tiger. And like I said he just broke one of Tiger’s records. That gets hardcore golf fans to pay attention.
