Does anyone feel the consistency at the range with rubber tees to be less than teed up ball on real grass?
Is it just in my head and i just blow or does it feel better off a real tee?

in your head.
unless you hit the tee instead of the ball.

think about it, your going to strike the ball first so the tee won't make a difference.

I once hit a shot off a can of coke with my 5 wood, shot still worked out pretty well.

Not a fan of the rubber tee. They always seem much too long. Not being in control of the tee height gets in my head, even if I'd have teed my ball that exact height anyway.

Mainly the height, i can never find a tee that tees it up how i like it
where as on the course i just tee it up the same way and hit whatever i'm hitting in my warmup session the entire day.
But at the range i cant seem to replicate stuff....
maybe its just in my head i dunno

I have trouble with rubber tees. I think it's 2 things: one is that the tees (at least the ones available at the range I occasionally use that uses them) are in 1/2-inch increments. That's quite a bit coarser than the adjustments I like to make. The other is not the tee, but the fact that if I'm using a rubber tee, I'm on a mat. The edges of the mat really mess with my head---I find it hard to ignore the visual suggestion that I need to be lined up along the edge of the mat. Between that and the inevitably bowed surface of the mat, I find it hard to get comfortable at the right distance from the ball, so I end up feeling cramped or reaching, and it's psychologically really hard to correct.

In your head.

If i'm swinging well that day, doesn't matter what i hit it off of. If i'm off, nothing will help.

I've seen my father in law hit 3i off those giant rubber driver tees at the range with good results.

Problems with hitting driver off rubber tees at range:
* Too high - Ball pops up, puts dummy mark on top of driver head
* Too short - I hit line drives about 10 feet off the ground (problem with jumbo driver heads)
* Dry rot - It's been in the sun and rain for three months, is starting to crumble, and the ball falls off before you can hit it

Also, my wooden tees have score lines. I can tell just how high to tee the ball, depending on turf type, length of tee grass, etc. Rubber tees give you no flexibility.

I see alot of rubber tees that have either been cut or broke and cause the ball to lean to one side which messes me up. I solved it by buying my own rubber tees (set of 3) and take them to the range to use instead of the ranges. The ones I bought are also higher quality so they don't seem as flimsy when using the higher ones.

The only time ive ever hit off the rubber tees is at the golf store trying out used clubs and i think its a combination of not being to get them the right height, hitting an unfamiliar club, and those darn rubber mats. Ill brush grass sometimes with my driver, I try to tee the ball low enough to not pop it up(which is what happens if i tee it too high) On those rubber mats, brushing them really messes up your swing and I never can hit consistent shots. If i had to go to a range without natural grass(all around here are), I'd just not go at all.

Just another reason why grass ranges are much nicer...

My swing is not very consistent so I can't say that I detect a difference between rubber and regular T's, but I usually don't like the height. I pull the rubber T out and replace it with a rubber T-holder (can't think of a better word) that holds regular T's in place. I bought a couple of these a Golf Galaxy and they work great. When I'm done, I put the orignal rubber T back.

My driver makes a different sound when I hit off rubber tees. Aside from that I don't have any reason to say that rubber tees produce a different result.

I agree that having the ball teed too high or too low can make practicing a royal pain. I've tried cutting down various rubber tees to just the right height that I prefer. Different ranges having different thickness in their mats can be irritating, but after a couple tries of shaving a few millimeters off of a rubber tee I can get it to a good height and just keep it in my bag.

I think it is pyschological.

I struggle with a driver off a rubber tee and also hitting an iron solid off a matt. Today I practiced at one of my local courses - horrible drives off the rubber tee and hardly any solid irons off the matt.... drove straight to another course with a better practice facility and hit the best drives I have ever hit one after the other off a real tee on grass and hit nearly all my irons solid off grass.  Same day, same swing, same feeling.

Problem is, it would probably happen in reverse the next time!  Golf.
