I saw a pair of Snickers™ golf, Charlie & the Chocolate Factory, running shoes… Maybe the OP might be in the market for a pair of those?

I will occasionally play a casual round by myself in New Balance running shoes-mostly out of laziness. I can't tell a lot of difference, but I am sure there is some.

Best practice would be to get the best fitted and most supportive golf shoes you can, and keep the spikes changed as they wear out.  If you play a lot, have two pairs and alternate.

I mostly play in a comfy pair of Nike Scramble trail running shoes.  I have a pair of Nike golf shoes, but have never noticed a difference when wearing either on the course, and therefor hardly ever wear them.  The Scrambles have somewhat of an aggressive thread, kind of like spikes.  wink.png

You sir, gave me an old fashioned belly laugh. Sorry OP, joke totally at your expense.

Without spikes must be a bear on hilly courses?

I have always played in running shoes and haven't had any problems (with footing that is!). Once I get a bit better ( & richer) I will probably invest in some.

golf shoes arent that expensive, i paid $20 for mine, just have to find the best deals.

I ocasionally used to wear running shoes on my evening 9 hole rounds but now there's such a variety of golf shoes I have a pair of sneaker-like golf shoes.

Im shaped more like Calcavecchia than Villegas.  Don't need no spikes to keep me planted.

Finally got a pair of golf shoes.  I've been wearing running shoes out on the course and since I ride when I play I didn't feel much urgency to get a pair.  I got a great deal on a pair of Nike Zoom Trophy shoes($70, usually around $100 everywhere else).

I also figured I'd get a pair of good golf socks to go along.  Went with the Kentwool Tour Profile socks.  Haven't tried the shoes/socks yet though.

I have trouble finding golf shoes that fit.  I wear a new balance 993 sized 11 EEEE. I also have a narrow heel and super high instep.  I pay $125 per pair.

I am willing to pay $500 per pair for custom made golf shoes.  But all the custom made shoes I find are really custom materials.  Not custom made sizes.  Plus I have to pay for them even if they don't fit.  I have heard rumors of shoe makers in England who will make what I need and make sure I am fit.  The problem is I have to go there and get fit, plus the cost is  over $3500,00 per pair plus airfare and room and board.

Another problem with spikes is when you have bad knees and ankles.  My left knee cannot take the twist when I am hitting the ball with high traction shoes.

Another problem with soft spikes is the damage they leave on the green when the green is soft from rain.  It looks like I took a hammer to the green and left 1/2" deep hammer marks for each soft spike everywhere I step on a soft green.

I played for a while in normal sneakers while waiting for some blisters to heal and didn't notice a ton of difference provided the ground was dry.  No comparison in the wet though, if for nothing else than the fact that golf shoes are usually treated to be waterproof.

Heck, most of us probably let our softspikes wear down so much before replacing that we might as well be wearing sneakers. Similar to how most people treat the tires on their cars...

I am the opposite

I walk around in my golf shoes sometimes outside the golf course.

Because I bought this pair of "non-golf-shoes-looking" golf shoes by Nike

Sometimes I just wear it around, hang out, shopping... just in case when I want to go to the range anytime of the day smile.pngnike-air-rate-golf-shoes-greygreen.jpg

I own several pairs of Footjoy Classics Tour (the US made ones) and love em but I wear one of my many pairs of Adidas Originals when I go to practice, evening rounds and Friday night rounds with my wife and have never been able to tell a difference.  Of course if it's wet you need spikes, but hills make no difference.  Last year I got a couple of pairs of Ecco Street Premiers and I love them.

My everyday work shoes are one of 3 pairs of spikeless Footjoy Classics and many nights I will go straight from work to play or hit balls and there is zero difference between the spikeless and spiked shoes for me when it comes to how I play and putt.

Only if the ground is wet.
