I hope you members aren't tired of my poll questions.  It's nice to do a bit of research and see what's on the mind of a golfer.  I'm going to cheat the system again and allow you to answer both the questions above. Please just leave one answer per question.

The answers I chose are assuming you're practicing with a single club, you're hitting off grass and you're taking a divot almost every swing.  I realize most golfers will sit and do a formal cleaning after they practice, this isn't what I'm asking about.  I want to know what you do about that quick brush off in between swings.  My answer is obvious but I'm curious if others have had the same a-ha moment that I did.

Just a reminder.....  If you haven't already checked it out, I am running a $5 off promotion for TST members on my Brush Caddy product.  Just type in the promo code "TST2011" at checkout and you get the Brush Caddy for $20 plus shipping.  Promo ends March 31st.

I voted "other" on how I clean my club.  I use a position on the range as near to the supplied water bucket and brush that I can.  Take a few divots and then walk over and use the bucket.  I have a towel on my bag and dry the club as I return to the range position.  This also allows me time to think and slow down on the range.  I see lots of people just firing ball after ball and really not thinking about what they are doing.  This allows me the chance to think about it!!

If I get some dirt or whatever stuck to the club after a shot or two, I'll knock it off with my foot real quick; after about 7-10 shots I'll wipe it down with a wet towel (and normally switch clubs at that point as well).

I brush the club off after 3 or 4 shots usually. If it's just a little dirty I use the towel on my bag, if it's in the grooves I use my Frogger brush. And that's all the cleaning I ever do. I've never cleaned them with water.

Depends. If I chunk it I might have to clean it right away :D.....usually after a few swings I guess.

I also use a tee to clean out my grooves more than my brush, because I keep tees in my pocket so it's just handy....you guys should bring out a tee with good bristles that can hold a ball and clean grooves.

In the beginning of the season when range is very sandy I take a bucket of water with me and soak the club head after every shot. Same thing if the conditions are bad.

In better conditions I use my pant leg and/or a towel, depending on the amount of dirt on the club face.

It depends.

If I going out golfing after a bit of rain, then I'll usually wipe the grass off my club, with a towel, before I put it back into my bag. On a sunny and hot day, I'll usually clean my clubs after my round, with a brush and towel.

If there's mud or dirt on the club during play, a few swings in some wet grass usually works to get rid of it for me.

I was going to add the option of "water bucket" but I guess I felt that was more for that formal cleaning after you're done.  I still walk over and dunk my club after 20-30 swings but it's a hassle to do it after every one or two.

You do bring up a good point about allowing time to think and slow down.  There's no point in firing ball after ball without thinking about it.  I guess I kind of get into a groove of when the ball is going where I want, I feel I'm swinging correctly and I don't want to change anything.  Sometimes I want to hit my next ball while the last good swing is still in my head and I can still feel what I was doing correctly.  For me, walking back to the bucket is for when things are going wrong.

I have a common bath towel hanging around my umbrella on the bag. One end is wet, the other is dry. If you clean the club as soon as it's dirty, this is sufficient to clean the grooves. If it is just a bit of grass on the club, I just knock it off on my club-more than that I use the towel and as 596 said this gives me a pause between shots.

I don't clean out the grooves, but I keep the clubface free from dirt and sand after every shot. After some amount of balls, I clean out the grooves. If the range got some taller grass around, I wipe the dirt off there, if not, I keep a towel nearby. Have never seen the stationary brushes on the ground, but it would be useful. Then again, most ranges here got mats.

This. That said, I generally hit at the Newport Beach GC which only has mats, so they really dont get dirty. If I'm playing on grass, like every 1-2 swings....

When I'm at the range, I try to make it as close to an actual round as possible.  For each shot, I'll go through my entire routine, adding drills if that's what I'm doing.  So, I want my club to clean for each shot I take, because I don't want to be hitting a ball during my round with a dirty club.  My bag isn't far away, and my brush and towel are easily accessible, so as part of routine I'll go ahead and make sure they are clean.  Normally it's a quick swipe with the towel unless its obviously dirty.  I like to take it slow on the range to make sure that I'm doing everything the way I want to.

After every shot. I keep my range routine the same as on course. Line up, check wind, stance, swing, clean club, switch club... Etc

My only problem with golf is that I am usually standing too close to the ball............ after I hit it.

Unless I'm trying to groove something in particular I step out of the box between shots.  One thing that helps is putting the balls behind the hitting area, far enough away that I have to go retrieve one.  I try to take a lot of time between shots, and part of that includes cleaning my club.

I tend to get lazy on the range as it relates to cleaning the club. I'll hit a few shots more than I should, then clean the club. That's cuz I get into a machine-gun routine in hitting balls & I don't want to stop to clean the club. I could really benefit from doing what other posters have said - clean after every shot. Would slow me down.

But now I have a rulefourteen invisibrush golf towel! Makes cleaning the club quick. (there's your promo joequijote!)
