I simply cannot mix coffee and golf. It is a sure fire way to hit the ball like crap and score equally as crappy.

What types of food/drinks do you avoid when golfing?

I try to avoid all forms of caffeine for the 24 hours before a round.  I try to minimize sugar in that time period, too, although I tend to bring a PB&J; and some Powerade to the course with me, so that might be a bit silly on my part.

I try to avoid heavy breakfasts such as breakfast burritos so I don't have to duece mid-round. pretty much nothing can kill your momentum better than that...

I would have to agree here.  Had this issue just after check in Sunday and the round just never got started right.  Didn't feel right hitting the ball to start and threw the rest of the round off.  I drink so much coffee normally, if I don't have a cup on the way to the course, I play like crap.

I definitely can't have a medium to big breakfast before golfing... the stomach will kill me even before the round gets started.  But, I DO need coffee before.  I've actually semi-tested this.  Same course, same weather, somewhat same course conditions, one day I intentionally drank my normal amount of coffee (12oz) before the round, and the next day I intentionally didn't drink any coffee.  I putted 5 strokes better with coffee than without! And throughout playing with or without coffee, the same trend happens.  It's crazy, I feel more confident about the line and have better feel for the putt.

Well that's no fun.  At least if I drink early in the round, I know I will slowly get better.

Just kidding.  I am astonished at the amount of empty beer cans I find in the trash at every hole.

Peanut butter, fruit, and even a bagel is healthy energy for my round.

Yeah, early morning I need caffeine too, in the form of coffee, no Red Bull though. No alcohol. I can see why people drink, but that has little appeal to me.

Kill slow play. Allow walking. Reduce ineffective golf instruction. Use environmentally friendly course maintenance.

Sugar or Alchohol, I get the shakes if I eat sugar, I stay away from it and eat foods with protien and carbs.  I don't necessarily avoid alchohol, I'm just not much of a drinker, plus I'm allergic to most of the grains in beer, whiskey, burbon and such, so I get a horrible sinus headache if I drink the day before I play or while I'm playing.

I have no such limitations either before or after a round.  I play the majority of my golf in the early morning, so there is no time to consume mass quantities of anything (Coneheads reference).  Even when I play later in the day, there is no limitation.

Ditto.  Quite frankly, I've never found anything to affect my game to such a degree that I'd have to avoid it simply to play - alcohol included.  I've shot lights out while both stoned-cold sober and with a slight buzz, and have sucked big time in both states of mind.  If I had to worry about the littlest things I consumed - like sugar, caffeine, etc. - and how it affected my game, I think I'd give it up.  Golf is supposed to be fun, not a strenuous workout or a test of endurance.  If I'm going out for a 2-mile run or a session on the weight bench, I might limit my intake of specific things for a couple hours prior, but for a round of golf?  Please......

Same. My normal pre-golf consumption is 2x bacon sandwiches, 2x coffees, a glass of OJ and occasionally a Red Bull (caffeine doesn't affect me but I love the taste of coffee/Red Bull).

During the round I have a Mars bar and Coke Coca Cola with me. Needed to clarify that one! ;)

I don't really avoid anything. Maybe spicy foods that would have me stopping at the 9th for 20 minutes, but other than that I am fine.

I'll try and not be hungover, but that's not always the case.

I don't like to eat too much on or during the round. But I like to consume 2-3 screwdrivers before the round and a bunch of beers during the round - helps keep my nerves calm!

Golf is deceptively simple and endlessly complicated

If I don't have my coffee I will be severly cranky and quite possibly a pounding headache. I like to have some eggs and hash browns before a round though, I can't golf on an empty stomach. No beer or alcohol for me though
