Yesterday it started raining lightly while I was walking down the first fairway... Thought about saying "Forget it." and walking back to the car, but decided to continue.  A few other folks stayed out on the course, but I saw a lot of people walking off the course... Rain got heavier (off and on), and by the time I was was finished with 18 I was pretty wet. However, for the entire back nine I had the course to myself... What a great round!... Played better than my normal and didn't have to worry about holding others up or waiting for folks in front of me... Also found 5 balls (1 ProV1) and didn't have to worry whose they were as there was nobody else around... Hope it rains again today....!

i like the rain when its humid out, but i need to bring a change of shirt, adding about a 1lb of water to the shirt is evil on a hilly course.

i love the rain when golfing ...well, like it alot. throwin on a short sleeve rain pullover and playin 18 with no one on the course = serenity. something's different about a golf course when it's raining (other than it playing longer lol), especially if it stops while you're playing and the sun pokes through some dark clouds...

I'm with you, I have no problems playing in the rain, especially in the summer time.  Here in the midwest the humidity is so high, that after a round of golf, my shirt looks like I was rained on anyway.  What happens a lot with the weather here, front will move in, dump rain like it is coming out of a bucket for 15 or 20 minutes and then move out.  Most people will leave the course, but we will wait it out and then have the course to ourselves, at least no one in front of us.

I played a round last year in a total downpour without an umbrella or a jacket. I had the course completely to myself, and finished in under two hours without even rushing. Shot +1 73 too, somehow. I hit a lot of really lucky long irons on the back nine and made three birdies.

I also like playing in the rain. As long as there's no lightning and it's not cold, it doesn't bother me at all.

my get up and go musta got up and went..

I hate the rain.  I live in Wisconsin and rain ruins a round for me.  Especially this year.  6 days straight of heavy rain and storms over Fathers Day week/weekend.  Why can't it rain in the evening only? :)

When I was a youth... many years ago... I remember playing in Durango, CO with my cousins in the summertime... It would get up to about 100° in the afternoon.  Then at about 2 p.m. a thunderstorm would come through, cover the course with hail and lower the temperature to about 70°... They had sheds with lightning rods around the course so you could wait out the thunderstorms right on the course... Great times... Light show and golf all together... :-)

Great pic Gioguy21!

I love being on the course just after a nice rain. For some reason I really enjoy hitting off of wet fairways. Anyone have a theory to that or feel the same way? Idk how to explain it I just love hitting flush iron shots off the wet fairway. I also agree with having the sun poke through the clouds after a good storm on the course... Golf has so much more to it then hitting a round object w a clubbed stick!

Isn't that the truth?! Been trying to explain that to non-golfers for years!

On a hot summer day, rain is a relief.  A wet shirt or body means nothing with respect to playing in the rain.....

It's all about the grip........if you have extra dry gloves and keep a good dry grip, then no problem.  The unfortunate reality is that if it rains long or hard enough, the grip may and will eventually be compromised. Once your grip is compromised, your game is cooked/done.  I don't care who you are.....

That's my take on rain...

If it drizzles a little during a round, or it rained the night before, that's OK. But if it's been raining off and on for two days, I stay away.

After multiple rain storms the rough is extra heavy - likely hasn't been mown recently - and shots into the green rip a 3-inch gash when they hit. If it's soggy, I have trouble getting good weight shift as my feet sink in, or worse, just one foot sinks - a recipe for a sprained wrist on a heavy shot.

Damp is OK, I just take an extra club for my chip and pitch shots. Soggy, no thanks.

I like rain in a tournament, even a scramble -- actually, especially a scramble.  I feel like I have an advantage, since I've learned a lot of tricks to deal with it over the years, but for everyday play I'd rather it didn't rain.  (I think I also get some sadistic pleasure watching the wimps suffer and complain. )  As long as it isn't too heavy, I don't mind much though.  The old saying goes, "If there's nae rain or nae wind, there's nae golf."  Not sure I agree completely with that, but rain is at least a source of variety!

My biggest problem with rain is keeping my glove and grips dry. If I can do that, I don't mind a light drizzle, or even some moderate rain if it's temporary. That said I try to avoid rain because it's not my preference and I don't golf often enough spend the times I do in the rain.
