I always thought you have to plan out your round like a conservative, yet swing carefree and loose like a liberal.  I hate to get political on a golf chat, but who do you think takes more self-taken gimmies - Democrats or Republicans.   Why??

I guess you missed the point that this is for talking Golf.

I get it...

Definitely Democrats! Conservatives most closely represent Costanza from Seinfeld on the golf course....IME. The reason should be fairly obvious if you have any political knowledge whatsoever.

I tend to avoid talking politics. It never ends well on the internet. :p

Based on the stereotypes I'm familiar with, I'd say liberals/Democrats. Conservatives would be the most likely to say "it's in or it's not, there's no 'close enough'" or "if you want it to go in, hit the putt right next time". Liberals would seem more likely to reward the effort, "that was a heck of a putt, shame it missed by a half inch, why don't you pick up anyway?" or "that bizarre bump in the green seems unfair". /waits for flamage...

Ultra conservatives actually refuse to acknowledge that the putt went in the hole. "That hole is not the right size, it should have missed. 1 stroke penalty." ;)

The problem with this thread is the fact that I could say the ultra liberal would say when a putt lips out

"that should have gone in so we will just give it to you in fact take one more stroke off"

Working for the government opened my eyes to both parties more than I would have liked and both of them are flawed heavily. It's just a shame that I don't think there is a politician left who doesn't have a price or won't let their party push them around.

Right like Clinton."  I never had sex with that woman."

Let's not forget the Libertarians, who decry all of golf as a wasteful boondoggle, and would prefer to dismantle the game to the point that its only objective consists of making a three-foot putt.

Democrats want more holes around the green so everyone has a chance. They would take a gimme because they feel entitled to it, due to the lack of other holes.

Republicans want a smaller hole to further differentiate the lesser golfers from the better ones. They take less gimmes to avoid being the lesser golfer.

I coulda sworn I left the cart right here......

No, the problem with this thread is that the moderate viewpoint won't even be explored. This is because conservatives call everybody who disagrees with them liberals, and liberals call everyone else conservatives.

Liberal golf: Any drives over 150 yards have to be rolled back by 10%; over 200 yards, 25%; over 250, 40%. If you hit the ball 300 yards, you're disqualified. There is no fairway: it would be unfair to give straight hitters a further advantage. The highest score has the "honor" on the next tee box.
Conservative golf: The player with the most expensive equipment wins; clearly he has too much invested to fail, and it might take down the whole golf economy.

Conservatives won't allow any gimmes for high-handicappers.  For the tour pros, however, "that's one's good" from the tee box.

The only difference I can see between the two major parties is who they want to give my money to.

    • Day 37, June 10.  Today was primarily WFH, so I had several practice sessions (indoors, off a mat, into the net).  At least one each of U, 9, and 6-iron full swings with the usual priority.   I also tried a few times a putting type stroke with my 4H, as something I should probably learn how to hit (and what it does), but the mechanical shot at home off a mat doesn't tell me much of what it's doing.  That's something I should probably try on a real green, not during a round until I've tried it.
    • Day 10 (10 Jun 26) - Played in the midweek shootout at my home course - on aerated and sanded greens - day of trying to figure tempo to get the best roll on the greens.  Approach game was decently solid as was shots off the tee.
    • Ok, I'm trying to find a feel to hit a consistent ball flight (irons).  My current predicament.  1. I try to do the arms down stuff better, with the club feeling like it is way behind me more. It's just a cluster of results. Most of the time, I can't get any speed on the swing. If I get my arms down faster, I just throw them out.  2. I focus all my attention on turning better. Pushing off with my left leg and getting my right side through better. On the DTL view, this doesn't produce anywhere close where the hands and club should be. The result is usually ball first contact, lower ball flight, more centered contact.  At this point, I am going with option 2. Stop thinking about what the hands do. Just make a shorter backswing, keep it wide, turn through. Somehow, the club head finds the ball. My focus is so much on just making sure I turn, it's like, "Oh, that contact was better.... Oh, that bell flight looks playable." If not, I will just be practicing my entire summer.
    • Nope, they spent too much money. They are in over 28 million on the football roster and related NIL compensation at this point. Boosters associated with any Texas college football team has HUGE sway. The AD is between a rock and a hard place. They put a lot of money into Sorsby, at the chance of winning a NC this year. If you move on, you basically wasted a lot.  This is why Ohio State wants 3 QB's they feel can start. That is why the backups the past 5 years at some point transfer. Texas Tech has no backup near the quality of Sorsby. If they move on, they are screwed for 2026.
    • Maybe there's something I still don't understand about the situation. Wouldn't Texas Tech do itself a favor to move on from Sorsby at this point?
