Is it OK or "uncool" to have address labels on your clubs?

What do you mean?  I have never heard of this.  What's the purpose, and what exactly is it?

Ya, thanks.  I just looked them up.  Didn't know they existed, or that people put them on clubs.  I've never lost a club or seen a label.  I'm sure if it has worked for someone, they'll swaer by it.  Guess I wouldn't call it "cool".

I've never done it, but I don't see why not.  IMO.....a label with your name and phone number would be most useful.

Don't know why you would.  If you lost a club at a course, chances are the finder would turn it into the clubhouse, not mail it back to you.  Or, if the finder is a thief, he would know where to go to get the rest of your clubs.

Umm... well I wouldn't say that it's "cool" to have your name on your clubs but it's not "uncool" either.  Just a precaution some takes to try to make sure they can recover lost clubs.

If you turn in a tagged club to the proshop, they will contact the owner. It's part of good customer service.

And what's this "cool" stuff? Gresh24 must be having flashbacks about sixth grade.

Exactly what I thought when I read the poll. I voted "non-cool" because that's not the same thing as "uncool."

Address labels have always struck me as practical but unnecessary. Don't leave your clubs lying about.

I remember a blurb in Golf Digest last year about this (I can't find the original article, only some references to it), where they purposely "lost" some labeled nice wedges near greens.  21 of 25 were returned.  But that does mean that 16% of wedges even WITH LABELS were not returned.  Too bad they didn't test unlabeled clubs, but i'd guarantee the return rate would be lower.

and I do agree with the "don't lose them in the first place", i've definitely left wedges before--usually because of some sort of short game blowup where i've been all over the place, and then so flustered that I forget to pick up my scattered sticks.

so who cares about "cool"...i'd rather keep my Vokey!  And just like mulligans, preferred lies, sandbagging, etc, golfers can't always be guaranteed to be an honest lot (even though I think most are!)

I have my name and phone number on all of my clubs even though I do not feel of having a habit of forgetting them here and there. I bet most of us try to keep good care of one's belongings but for some strange reason some items tend to get lost sometimes. I cannot see any harm done in putting the name and phone number on the clubs. Address sounds quite unnecessary as propably nobody would send a stray club by mail wothout first knowing the circumstances of getting the money spent back.

Once I have actually had benefit of having a phone number on my clubs. I lost a club in the woods without knowing it (carrying the bag one of the clubs had fallen out of the bag) and two days later I got a call from a person having found my club. So I got it back. This is how honest people deal with things.

Oh, one thing more. Sometimes people forget their clubs in a competition. It is not once or twice I have been addressed as a rules official of a forgotten club. Now, if those clubs would have owner's name and number on it the founder could call/SMS the owner on the spot. Participants often stay at the club much longer than social players so odds of getting the club back are much higher.

Call me cynical or a product of where I live, but my knee jerk reaction is what's the use, most people will take your club anyway, but I based on my anecdotal experience people are more honest outside of big cities.

It's "non-cool" until the day you lose your precious club and someone actually calls you up later that night on where to retrieve it. Then it becomes cool.

I've got labels on all my clubs. Mostly because I came across a site where I got them for $2 or something like that. I have never lost a club, so I'm not worried about it, but it doesn't hurt, so why not. I honestly don't understand what the poll is about.
