Do you use an app to keep track of scoring?

I just started using Golf Shot.  It keeps track of everything that I can think of, plus it has a GPS feature on it too.  I got it for an adroid and I think it cost 29 dollars.

Golfshot used to be good, but the current upgrade in the android version keeps malfunctioning.  I get to the course, start up the app, and it doesn't want to work.  I have to log off, erase all data, then redownload all data to the phone, while getting ready to play.

Also, the statistics functions aren't all working correctly.  The online stats look okay, but if you look at the stats with the phone app, it ignores all fairway misses to the right.  (I guess that's one way to fix a slice.)  They're working on this problem, they say.  But they don't know why I keep having the log in trouble.

It's too bad, because it worked just fine until the updates in late December and January. I've spent the money, but I'm about ready to ditch it until they update it.

I use the free Android version of the Golf Pad GPS app.  I found that several other GPS apps I tried drained my battery dead by the 13th or so hole, but I can easily make it through 18 holes with Golf Pad.  It's a solid app and quite accurate as to distances.

In my bag: - Ping G20 driver, 10.5 deg. S flex - Ping G20 3W, 15 deg., S flex - Nickent 4dx 3H, 4H - Nike Slingshot 4-PW - Adams Tom Watson 52 deg. GW - Vokey 58 deg. SW -Ping Half Wack-E putter

I haven't had any of those issues, and I have an android phone. I just got it a few weeks ago. Have you tried to update it recently?

There is one thing missing that I know people who use 'Scorecard'  can do, and that is track the distance of the first putt.  That seems like it would be a pretty good stat to have, so someday I may just get that program (I don't think it has a phone app, so you'd have to write everything down manually, then input it later, but don't quote me on that!) but for now, Golfshot seems to do the trick.  I'm mainly paying attention to fairways and greens at this point anyway.

It has a phone app. For iOS.

Cell phone use on the golf course is illegal. If you use one your handicap is fake. A device like a sky caddie can keep your score while giving you distance readings.

I thought it was illegal to use a cellphone as a golf GPS, but you are permitted to use it for texts, e-mails, phone calls and score keeping.

That's incorrect. You can use a phone to do whatever it's capable of (within the rules - so no looking up weather, calling your instructor for a mid-round tip, etc.) if you're not using it for a GPS.

I can use Scorecard on my iPhone to keep my score and it's perfectly legal.

That's why people take issue with that rule. If I have a laser I can use my phone fully (including looking up weather reports, etc. - it'd be illegal, but I'm not literally prevented under the rules from USING my phone). However, if I wanted to use a GPS app on my phone, my phone is illegal for use, period, because it's capable of doing other things.

They have great commercials on the Golf Channel, but I got only 12-13 holes before Golflogix drained my battery dead on my old Android phone and never got through more than 14 holes on my new Android phone with a stronger battery.  Golfpad works just as well and I still have at least 1/3 of my battery life alive after 18 holes.

+1

I use the paid version because it keeps more stats, but I really like the app and the website.

    • @boogielicious and I are definitely in for the Stay & Play and will need the extra night's stay on Friday. I don't know what the plans are for our group on Friday but even if we don't make it for dinner with the rest of the Friday arrivals, I'll be more than happy to meet up somewhere for a beer or something.
    • Taking your dispersion and distance in consideration I analyzed the 4 posible ways to play the hole, or at least the ones that were listed here. I took the brown grass on the left as fescue were you need to punch out sideways to the fairway and rigth of the car path to be fescue too.  Driver "going for the green"  You have to aim more rigth, to the bunker in order to center your shotzone in between the fescue.  Wood of 240 over the bunkers I already like this one more for you. More room to land between the fescue. Balls in the fescue 11% down from 30% with driver. Improve of score from 4.55 to 4.40. 4 iron 210 yards besides the bunkers.    Also a wide area and your shot zone is better than previous ones. This makes almost the fescue dissapear. You really need to hit a bad one (sometimes shit happens). Because of that and only having 120 yards in this is the best choice so far. Down to 4.32 from 4.40. Finally the 6 Iron 180 yards to avoid all trouble.    Wide area an narrow dispersion for almost been in the fairway all the time. Similar than the previous one but 25 yards farther for the hole to avoid been in the bunkers. Average remains the same, 4.33 to 4.32.  Conclusion is easy. Either your 4iron or 6 iron of the tee are equaly good for you. Glad that you made par!
    • Wish I could have spent 5 minutes in the middle of the morning round to hit some balls at the range. Just did much more of right side through with keeping the shoulders feeling level (not dipping), and I was flushing them. Lol. Maybe too much focus on hands stuff while playing.
