http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nbc-yahoo-sports/paul-azinger-has-a-way-to-fix-tiger-woods-in-10-minutes-182505504-golf.html

In an interview with Paul Azinger about fixing Tiger Wood's swing, he said all great golfers had three things in common.

Yet he doesn't elaborate on the three things!

In Azinger's study of the swing, he has come to believe there are fewer fundamentals than most instructors teach.

“There are only three things great players have done the same with their swing, the three fundamentals,” Azinger said. “That’s physically. There’s a mental side. Of the three physical things, Tiger has lost track of one, and he’s got to fix it. It’s a very easy fix.”

What is it?

Azinger says he isn’t sharing that publicly, but he would tell Tiger Woods.

I know of 5 things that good golfers do! :-D

Or when you finally find out what the "secret" is, you end up disappointed because it is obvious.

You mean you're not supposed to hit the ball with the grip end?

Right now, Paul Azinger is leaving Tiger Woods a voice mail with a James Cagney accent, "It's the takeaway, see?"

Ditto. Azinger is a classic example of someone who can DO very well, but can"t TEACH worth squat.

Here he is demonstrating a nice, strong move into the ball on Golf Channel Academy. WTF? Rolf.

The guy is a bit of a tool, and not a particularly sharp one.

Alright, just so you all aren't left wondering forever, I will reveal the 3 fundamentals, as personally revealed to me by the man P.A. himself.............

1. Hit the ball....

2. Straight...

3. ...and Long.

I know of 3 fundamental things the CLUB does:

1) Path

2) Face Angle

3) Shaft Lean

And, I suppose, the 3 things great golfers do for each:

1) On Plane

2) Square

3) Forward

There are some other related things such as angle of descent and bottom of arc.  But, as far as some private double top-secret physical things?  LOLOLOLOLOL

I hope he is not talking about the "PGA" fundamentals.  My belief is the only true fundamental is impact position (thanks Bobby Clampett).  Everything else can be altered and/or compensated for.  And, once you master that (haha), you work on speed for distance.

@david_wedzik said that according to what Paul has said, two seem to be related to the lower body and one is likely related to impact. He wasn't 100% sure, though.

My belief is the only true fundamental is impact position (thanks Bobby Clampett).

Impact is different for virtually everyone, though… wouldn't you say? Jim Furyk looks nothing like Bubba Watson at impact.

No, I wouldn't say.  I defer to your expertise, but I have to disagree.  I believe there are vastly more similarities than differences of good ball strikers at impact.  A few differences with driver swings, sure.  Bubba and Lexi on their toes come to mind.  Maybe there are some very slight differences between 1-plane vs 2-plane swings, I'm not sure.  HOW the club is delivered to the point of impact is certainly different, but I don't see where impact is "different for virtually everyone."  We can all learn things from Furyk and Bubba, but I don't think I would use them as examples when talking about fundamentals.  By the way, 3 of the 5 principles of PureStrike relate directly to impact position.

It depends on what's in your list. We're wandering into vague territory because I could say all five keys have to do with impact… yet again the impact positions if Furyk and Tiger look quite different to most.

^ I understand.  I do appreciate how you take much of the "vagueness" out of the swing process, though. :-) Thanks for not keeping the "secrets" secret!

There are 3 secrets.

1. Swing fast.

2. Hit the ball on the sweet spot.

3. Make it go where you want it to go.

Easy peasy lemon squeezey.

BTW it's number 3 that Tiger lost. ;-)

    • Carl Pettersson is the Pancake Zone. The Swedish Pancake Club, Ranked - Fried Egg Golf Keegan Bradley just won his fifth PGA Tour event and became the latest member of the Swedish Pancake Club. Here's a ranking of that exclusive group. It's his sixth win in a decent length career. He's nondescript. I think it says he doesn't make waves, wins some second-tier events, hasn't had many close finishes in the top three in majors… and that only hard-core golfers follow the week-to-week. P.S. Five wins as personified by Carl Pettersson is the Pancake Zone. From Shotgun Start, I should say. It's not Carl per se, it's five wins.

    • He's had 3 top ten finishes in majors recently, so maybe the odds aren't that low.  And this was his 6th PGA tour win.  And he is 5th in the OWGR.  What does it say about the state of golf that a guy like this is 'unknown'. And what is the Pancake Zone?  I can't recall hearing that term before.
    • I refuse to give up.  Well, after switching from right handed to left handed and being fairly succcessfull, my medications got changed awhile back and I just (for curiosity) pulled my Cleveland Launch Driver (12* loft, Senior flex shaft) and was hitting around 130 to 150 yards with it. (Nice and straight)  My golfing buddy just happened to have his new Q135 Taylormade (and hits about 250 yard drives.)  As a side note, I was taking a drug to keep my heart from fluttering  (Propranonol) and it was suspected that it was driving my pulse down. (From the 70's to the low 50's. )  So, since my Cleveland Launch does a little better at slower swing speeds, I switiched back to my right handed clubs. Cleveland driver, 3 & 5 wood, and Majek Hybrid irons.  Well, Sunday, my pulse was back up in the 70's so I decided to play right handed. I felt really well and my strength had returned.  Front 9, I shot a 54. (I am now 79 years old and have set a goal to shoot my age this year or next year at 80) I play fairly well either right handed or left handed.  On the back 9, I started hitting my buddy'x Q135 driver and had worked the distance up to around 175 yards off the tee. (9.* loft and stiff shaft) Changged my swing to a softer and smooth  swing style. (By bringing my back swing more vertical and the swing more relaxed and smooth. I don't swing strong enough to get much flex on a stiff shaft. )  I finished the round with a 52. (Playing Fort Hays, Kansas)  So,,,,,,,I ordered me a new Q135 Taylormade, 10.5* loft, and Diamona Regular Flex.  I will go back to playing with my Majek Hybrids and play right handed, since my medications have been adjusted and are working quite well. ( I wonder if they have a medication  that would increase my swing speed.) Been raining and I can only play 18 holes and then at least a day to rest up for another 18.   Golfers, play for fun, enjoy the game, but don't quit! Don;t get hung up on what your buddy is doing; having your mind somewhere else, while you are trying to make your body play golf.   I will let you all know how my new driver works out. Thanks for reading.  Retired Old Man
