Kaya Optics, Inc., maker of sophisticated optical products for the security industry, announced today that it has extended its expertise to the world of golf, promising to transform the way the game is played with its new PuttingMonster™ stereoscopic green reading glasses. PuttingMonster™ uses advanced optics to reveal subtle surface differences in the contour of a putting green to a golfer. With PuttingMonster™, a golfer is able to read the break and grain of the putting green much more clearly and putt with more precision in the speed and direction of the putting stroke.

Seems unnecessary, since I have feet. Not to mention illegal.

There is no mention of this being illegal.   If it's legal, I will fire my caddy and buy this ;-) .

Oh, I'm was 100% sure this is illegal before @Golfingdad cited the rules, I was just waiting for someone to go, "Bwah ha ha ha! Really?"

Anyone scroll down? Whiskey... Tango... Foxtrot?

Too bad, I could really use both technologies too!  The stereoscopic vision sounds a little too god to be true. . .

The glasses to find your lost ball could be hand if they worked, although I feel like we just need to incorporate homing devices into the balls and eliminate the need for looking at all.

As far as the green reading things ... no, you don't need those.  Take Aimpoint.  (If you haven't already).  Hell, with Aimpoint, you don't even need EYES .

Just thinking  that any kind of sunglasses would cut down on the glare on the green in sunny weather.  With out sun glare, the green would be easier to read. Kind of a catch 22 on this scenario. I play quite a bit in very sunny weather, and I wear dark tint sun glasses for eye protection. I know for a fact I can see the  undulation of a green better while wearing my sun glasses. This is due to a better contrast of the turf surface  I even wear an orange (?)  tent in cloudy weather.  Again, for eye protection.

Can of worms?

I don't know that I'd call it a can of worms ... but I see what you're getting at.  There is a line in there somewhere.  Presumably, a pair of sunglasses designed with the intention of providing you with the break and grain of a green via (apparently) a grid like in a video game, would fall on the illegal side of that line.  Obviously, polarized sunglasses, and even hats, fall on the other side, even though one could argue that they "assist" you by eliminating or minimizing glare.

Where in between those two the line falls ... I do not know.

Ha ha. Funny, 'cuz it's true.

On further consideration, it's not true. If you're a mid-point guy, you need your eyes to read the chart (unless your Erik and have it memorized, but seriously dude, you gotta get out more :-P ) and if you're an express guy, ya gotta be able to see your fingers. Both guys (mid-point and express) need to be able to see both the hole and the AimPoint they are putting to.

Still funny though, so you can keep yer stinkin' skin. It's not like anyone else will be winning Member of the Month anytime soon. :-$

Ps: Get a job.

I know I am splitting hairs.  Is eye glass a part of cloth?   What if the glass is prescribed?    Should be illegal for pros and legal for amateurs like rangefinders?   If caddies are legal to provide putting alignment help, is this such a deal to have this legalized?  Just thinking out loud on this.  If it works as advertised, I think this is a good thing have in my pocket (er on my head).

So my question is, do the glasses actually project the video game-esque grid onto your vision? If so, that could be cool to mess around with. If not, I'd be highly disappointed after an advertisement like that.

I actually found it a bit more difficult myself to read greens while wearing polarized sunglasses. They reduced all the reflection off the grass, which was as intended, but I think it was just that it looked different and weird to me that made it more difficult possible. I currently use the Oakley G30 lenses (which are their "golf specific" lenses that have the added benefit of always letting you view life through rose-tinted glasses!) and I can read the green a bit better with them mostly because I'm not squinting due to bright sunlight. The main thing is that they block UV rays without making you feel like you're in a darkroom, and they can serve as regular safety glasses in most machine shops or other such venues since they're z87.1 conforming and a "rose" tint.

Should be illegal for pros and legal for amateurs like rangefinders?

That's not a rule. Hundreds or even thousands of pros use range finders in competitions.

If that's the case, I don't see why the said item should be illegal.

You're talking about two different things. Range finders are allowed as a condition of competition (or disallowed). This is tech that may just be illegal, 100% of the time, all on its own.

Range finders tell you stuff that's considered "common knowledge" - namely, the distance between things.

Two different things. You can't use a level during a round of golf either.

This is really funny for a couple of reasons:

A)  You were quoting yourself so it kind of looks like you are also berating yourself here. :-P

And, that considered ... your PS becomes twice as funny!!
