Welcome to TST. Nice that you want to make a career in Golf, best wishes for that!

These two posts might be moved to another location as it does not have a lot to do with Rory. . .

A career as a professional golfer is likely well out of reach.

A career as a golf professional is still well within your reach.

There are ways to make a career in golf other than as  golf professional (club, since playing is essentially out of the question).  There is a lot of business in the golf business.  That is probably your best avenue as even getting to teaching pro level, starting at age 28, is a pretty big hill to climb as you are starting at ground zero.  First you have to learn to play well yourself, then you have to learn how to teach others to do so.

What kinds of skills and experience have you amassed that might help you?  What have you been doing the last 10 years that might be applicable?

But then again, what the hell do I know?

Career in golf can be many things besides playing, or coaching.   The OP's best foot in golf career is probably doing something that does not involve playing, or coaching.   I am sure there are number of career paths in golf as in groundskeeper, marketing, club making, retail, ....

While you may not make it into the PGA tour (you never know) there are plenty of other tournaments and events you could get into, provided you become good enough, not to mention Long Drive Competitions, Opens, ect. you could also work on becoming a Club Professional or Golf instructor, or work as part of the PGA tour Crew. The biggest thing for you right now is to not worry about whether or not you can do it as a career, but instead focus on getting good at playing consistently and lowering your handicap, I find that asking people "can I make a career out of this" or "is it to late for me to be a pro" just brings out all the naysayers and people who just want to say "NO" There have been a lot of famous people in sports who started quite late and amid all the skepticism from others in the sport became very good and even made a career of their chosen sport.

There.   I fixed your post to be a bit more realistic ;-) .    The Op is 31 years old and have been playing golf for two years.   Unless he is the late Kim Jong Il reincarnation, he isn't going to make the tour (and the OP didn't explicitly suggest that he is seeking to be a PGA tour golfer).

Sounds like you need a dose of reality yourself, I never implied he was seeking to become a PGA tour pro, I was simply stating that if he was he may/may not make it in, and then I went on to say there were other careers in golf for him to consider. Maybe read the whole post instead of taking things out of context would work better for you hmm???? Also OP said he is turning 30!

Sorry, I was having a bit of fun with your wording.   No harm or offense intended.   Recently, there have been one too many 1st time posters posting an outrageous goal, were made fun of along with good realistic advices.   Say, you haven't been around this forum and don't know my posting style.   My posts are typically light hearted  and the smilie is usually a giveaway.   Welcome to the forum,  newbie (not meant in a bad way  ).

Honesty is good. If this person was tour ready after only two years at the age of 30, we’d be talking about his appearance on 60 minutes and not in the threads of this fine message board. If you like competition, strive to be your club’s champion or play in regional events. Do something in life that allows you the ability to play golf. Don't use iron covers.

Honestly, with some classes and passing the PAT you should be able to be a golf professional. I think you just have to shoot like a 144 or better on back to back 36 holes from 6,000 yards with pins in the center of the green.

    • I’m not sure I agree. It’s just what the majority find more entertaining. Most people prefer women’s gymnastics over men in the Olympics. How much hype is there with the men’s compared to the women’s? I bet you can rattle off several big names in women’s gymnastics and only a handful of men. Women’s tennis …same thing. And sure enough, their purses are the same. However, WNBA, awful…LPGA, not near as much interest than PGA. Don’t think it’s really that complicated IMO.

    • Hence your Avatar!😜 I drink a lot of water during the day if I’m playing or exercising. I get cramps otherwise.
    • If you walk up to a food/drink kiosk at Magic Kingdom and ask the person for a cup of "magic water" they will give you a small cup of Sprite for free. About 3 fingers worth. They don't sell alcohol at MK anymore so I go over to one of the courses while she hangs out there.
    • This isn't some kind of natural fact. It's a lot more complicated than this implies.
