Given the things I've read on another site today… I'm inclined to agree. :)

As a new member, what makes this forum better than others? I'm a part of some online skiing communities where most of the people know each other or know of each other. Is this place pretty tight knit?

What I find is that there is a core of guys who seem to have been here a long time and then a high number of people who sort of come and go. Tight knit in my opinion can be a double edged sword. Many new people might feel left out of the "clique" and not participate. I find that new members are welcome here and encouraged to become part of the conversation. I think that is one of the best attributes of this site. If you come here with an open mind and a willingness to learn you will find this a great place.

In terms of content we have a lot of interesting articles, in-depth reviews and share the best instruction information of any website (on this point it's not even close).

Just to add to what @mchepp here are a few regulars that "know" each other but we are very welcoming to new guys. We love talking about golf.

We also pride ourselves on how the site is moderated. Other sites allow a lot of "noise" and rudeness to occur, we keep things pretty respectable.

BTW just posted this

Not sure your definition of tight knit, but as a new guy, I second @mvmac on the golf instruction. Everyone here is willing to help especially on the swing threads. I think you would hard pressed to find a better site in that regards. I just stay out the "rules" conversation and life is good. I have even been invited to play with someone that was visiting from out of town. We had a great time, since we all here basically enjoy the game of golf.

Forums in general tend to be a tight knit group because people talk to each other all the time.  Im a member and regular contributor on pretty much all of the major golf forums and TST is right up there with any of them.

Its kind of funny how pretty much every forum says they are the best but really theres plusses and minuses to all of them.

This is what I've been seeing already. I've been looking for a place to get instant feedback with swing vids or playing tips and this looks like a pretty good place for that. Even have spent some time in the rules discussions and some get heated but it seems more like trolling than anything. Either way I need an outlet to talk golf so my real life friends don't get too fed up with it.

This will happen from time to time in just about any of the forums.  I try not to take anything too seriously and get bogged down by anything though.

Mostly, it's just a fun place to hang out and talk about golf or golf-ish stuff and waste away time at work. :-P

People can get riled up and upset. I don't remember the last time I did - it's just GOLF after all. :-D If you're passionate about or love golf and can behave like an adult, you've found a great place.

Welome. I've been here a couple years maybe, and I've found a great mix of people here. Different folks have different preferred topics and approaches, and you can get good discussions on all kinds of crazy topics. Some harsh and direct, most quite friendly. If you're looking for an outlet to share with other golf addicts, you can definitely find it here!
