Knock-off Golf Grips? ChampKey, Jaya, WedgeGuys

Last year I got my clubs regripped at Dick's with Golf Pride grips. The last few months, the grips have been splitting and are generally in really bad shape. I do play almost everyday, but in previous years, the grips seemed to be much better constructed, or at least used better materials. Also, it could be the way Dicks's installed them.

Went on Amazon to look for some new golf grips. I was surprised with a bunch of foreign knock-off type of golf grips that came up. Champkey, Jaya, WedgeGuys, all about half the cost of the Golf Pride, Lamkin, Winn grips available.

Anyone try these grips? Are they any good? If the brand name grips aren't going to last a couple of months, I could regrip my clubs twice as often using the knock-offs.

I don’t have any personal experience with knock-offs, but I play a LOT of golf, also in Florida, and have never had a problem like you mention with Golf Pride grips.  I’ll generally get between 100-150 rounds out of a set.  I’m guessing the installation was the issue...

Try a set of PURE grips. Rubber, last forever, inexpensive, easy to install.

No such thing as knock off grips, just companies that don’t get marketing exposure. Try Star grips. Feel great, last forever.

I'll chime in as I am one of those weirdos who likes to regrip his clubs himself. 

I've tried quite a few brands and I have to say IMO the Golf Pride CP2 is hard to beat. I really like the feel and they seem like they last forever. I've got some CP2 grips which I've literally moved from one club to another 3 or 4 times, over 2-3 years. I don't care who puts your grips on, if you don't get a full season out of a set of CP2's something is wrong. I know there's a lot of love on this forum for the PURE grips and I like them as well. IMO the Golf Pride CP2 is king. (and it should literally last several years no matter how much you play.)

My bag is an ever-changing combination of clubs. 

A mix I am forever tinkering with.

Thanks to you all for the advice. I'll probably buy the PURE grips, or, I just got a coupon today for $10 off at Dick's, so I might buy the Golf Pride CP2 grips. Decisions, decisions..

However, I still didn't get an answer whether the PURE/Golf Pride are worth twice as much as the 'other' guys. I'll probably buy a name brand this go around until I can see some more reviews on the off brands. The only thing I can figure is the economics of marketing/sales. If the off brands don't sell through distributors, or retail, they can probably save 50%. With somewhere between 200-250 rounds a year, I need to regrip more often.

Slick isn't the same as worn out. You just must sweat a bit more than others.

No, it's not the "worn out" kind of slick. The pattern, the tackiness, etc. is all still there. It's just that some people who sweat don't like certain models.

I don't sweat much. Don't use a glove. They're fine after a number of years even in heat.

I've only got a Pure installed on my driver, but it's lasted since the 2015 Cup. And I sweat about as much as anyone you'll ever meet - especially my hands.

      I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.

      Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
