I know if seems like the PGA just finished, but the US Open qualifying has already started.

Couple of links to start this discussion:
- the exemption list https://www.usopen.com/qualifying/exemptions.html
- the sectional list https://www.usopen.com/qualifying/sectional.html

The first qualifier was yesterday - https://www.usopen.com/qualifying/sectional/Dallas-texas.html#!&tab=results
With Brendon Todd & Nick Taylor being co-medalists at (-10), and Mike Weir getting a spot as well as Austin Eckroat (the only am to qualify yesterday)

General Topics - Tigers 16th major, Brooks goes back-back-back, Phil gets his career slam, DJ, Spieth, Molinari or maybe a first time major winner (Rickie, Rahm, Xander, Kuch,) - make your guess...

On which hole will he be on when the last person to not be over par for the tournament is over par?

Is famousdavis entering? If so, BK is toast.

In all seriousness, I’m looking forward to the US Open. I think Tiger will come in ready and Brooks is trying to make incredible history. No offense to Harrington or Strange, but he’s got a legit shot at a 3-peat just like Tiger did a few times in his attempts, although I don’t think Tiger ever really contended in any of his 3-peat tries. I’m just curious what Brooks’ strategy will be. Will he try to bomb it through some of the short doglegs like 3 and 11 or play it safe.

I don’t see BK hitting driver very often at PB.

Well he hit driver on a lot of holes others were hitting iron or 3-wood at Bethpage, like 1 and 6. And with his high ball flight he can take them over trees. He will try to probably drive 4 and 15. I think 3 he will go iron. Not sure how he will play 11.

Well sure but those are long holes. PB will just be too short for him on many holes considering the risks.

1 and 6 at Bethpage? They were short. He bombed it down there to have pitch shots for his second. Same with 11. He basically took driver on every hole, regardless.

Well PB has 118 bunkers to BP 78 (and half of those don’t really factor in a PGA TOUR). The greens are much smaller at PB and there is plenty of ways to lose a ball. BP was mostly tight with rough. I just don’t think BK will gamble as much with driver at PB.

And there's water, more or less, on 9 of the holes.  Water on only one hole at Bethpage Black.

And there were nearly no balls in the water all week.  I think I saw the count was three?

I tried to look up Koepka's record at Pebble Beach at the AT&T tournaments.  Apparently he doesn't play in those.  Maybe he doesn't like pro/ams with the likes of Bill Murray.

Yes, that pond barely comes into play.  You'd have to hit a fat shot like the rest of us to plink one in the water.

A lot of guys hate the Pro Am because it takes forever to play a round of golf. Gotta have a lot of patience. I would play it just because it’s Pebble Beach. But I see why PGA guys skip it.

Maybe he would have to laugh it up a bit with his group. Dude don't laugh.

No need for Brooks to please the audience. He is here to win majors. The icy stare will help him do that on Pebble Beach. He’s my favourite.

If Tiger's iron game is on and his back is healthy he has as good a chance as anyone at Pebble.  Bethpage Black did favor the stronger, younger guns but Pebble brings much more of the field into contention.  I would like to see Jordan pull out a win and get his game (and head) back in order.

    • How would you change the rule to make it more "fair", and still be consistently interpreted and enforced?  It may not be perfect, but as a referee I can watch a player and look at the ground surface and make a ruling.  How can it be changed to address different players and their individual height, weight, and shoe size?
    • A bit old.. but this rule is kind of unfair ...  Lets say that you have Emiliano Grillo and Darren Clark playing together on a PGA event and on one hole both hit the ball to the middle of the fairway only 1 inch apart. When they arrive to the ball Darren take his stand and water comes out from the ground and remains there so he procceds take a free drop on a dry area and hit his shot.  Afterwards Grillo takes his stance in the same spot as Clark, but because he is a lot ligther, no water araise from the ground. According to the rules he is not allowed a free drop from the same spot darren had a free drop seconds before. I would love to see this happenning live on TV. Can an argument be made by grillo? could and official use the "spirit of the rule" to let him have a free drop?
    • Day 84 (24 Jul 25) - Weekly nine hole round cancelled as the course was tied up with a ladies tournament.  No worries - set up with the 54deg wedge and worked on varied shots with green side focus in mine (those nGIR's).  Worked between high floaters and low spinners from varied lies replicating the types of lies I typically see on the courses around here.
    • I meant lb for lb - so yes I agree it's wheel weight. How would you go about explaining that to someone? Perhaps the rotational inertia being higher with heavier wheels and the rotational inertia of the wheel requiring more torque to make its angular acceleration increase at the same rate?
    • Day 7: Had a virtual putting lesson with @iacas. Spent some time afterwords working with the metronome.
