Yeah, I live in TN and there is for sure a difference.

I've actually been talking to a guy about these. He wears them religiously and I just assumed it was to keep the sun off.

Do they actually sell them as "cooling" sleeves and if so, what brands do you suggest?

The quality isn't the best but I just wanted to give them a try. I will buy better quality when these fall apart.  Now that @iacas has corrected us about color, I may go with something different.

The heat and humidity can be a problem here in Charlotte. I used to be a confirmed walker, but at nearly 70 years old, I ride when it's above 85*. I also drink a lot of water while playing. Gatorade and Powerade are both good too. My course has cold wet towels at the halfway house which is conveniently located midway through both the front and back nine. All in all, However; I'd rather play when it's 95* than when it's 45*.

1/2 Gallon Ice water/ Gatorade   Just a swallow or 2 right after each hole. 

Don't drink so much at one time that you slosh... 

I actually prefer Gatorade when it's that hot and humid....The Salts and additional stuff they put in it really helps me...

As others have said, hydrate prior and continue to drink throughout the round.  I play in south west GA and only walk, typically 27 holes.  It's not uncommon to play in 95 plus degree heat with humidity.  The things I do to manage the effects of heat:

1- Hydrate prior. (very important)!

2- I use an insulated drinking mug.  I fill with ice and gatorade that I keep with me on my push cart.  I'll go through 3-4 bottles of gatorade in 18 holes.  I also have 2-3 bottles of water I freeze the night before to provide cold water in addition to the gatorade.

3- I have a large umbrella on my push cart to protect me from the sun as I'm walking.

4. I've rigged up a battery powered 10" fan on my push cart (Rigid from HD), I can get a full round at high speed with one battery.  (I get some weird looks with this, but oh well. It puts out a good amount of air and It keeps me cool)

5. Eat snacks throughout the round.  For me it's primarily grapes, raisins, etc.

6. I walk at a leisurely pace and allow faster players to play through.

 

 

Here are pictures of the battery powered shop fan (Ridgid from Home Depot) that I rigged up to my push cart.  It has threads on the bottom to mount on a tripod.  I drilled a hole in the cover and use a knurl head bolt to hold it on.  I also cut some hard foam wedges that are Velcro to the bottom on each side to keep it from wobbling.A full battery charge will get me a full round on just below max speed. 

I've got quite a few positive comments from folks on the course and it really really helps on hot days.

Well I played with a broad brimmed hat and cooling sleeves today and it worked out ok. My hands were drier than they have been bare.  I will keep this up during the heat.

Glad to hear those sleeves worked for you.  

One other trick I do sometimes is to put cold water on the sleeves.  This doesn't really work with a long-sleeve shirt, but with the solar sleeves, they retain the water longer and more comfortably than my skin does, and it keeps me cooler.  

On an unrelated note, I have noticed lately I have a harder time practicing in hot weather.  No real issue going out for golf, but going outside to practice in the heat I'm less enthused about.  It's a slight problem because I do want to see ball flight and I can't really do a lot of short game practice indoors, at least not in my current setup.

I'm a brand new golfer, but am planning on playing 18 Sunday when it is supposed to be 98 degrees here in Mass. I've got one of those evaporative cooling towels from work and have been told they work very well, so I plan on using that and regularly re-soaking it with ice water while playing. Hopefully this along with lots of water and gatorade helps keep the heat manageable, I'll update here after with how well it works.

I recently had a tournament and a friend's event all outside in 85+ deg and 90% humidity. The keys for me were to Cooling towel, water, Gatorade, good food (turkey sandwich and banana) and an umbrella. Use all of these early and often. Also if you are walking go at your pace, don't rush to keep up. Take a few extra seconds to catch your breath, wrap your head or get some water.

 

Finally, I found that taking my hat off in the shade and using some cool water was a big help.

I bought these on Sunday, played with them in 97 degrees on Wednesday afternoon ... they really helped and I intend to wear them working in the yard as well 😎
