I am the only one getting more and more annoyed with this guy Els.

He has career earnings of close to $50,000,000, plus millions and millions of dollars from his other ventures. 

He is just around the corner from getting on The Champions Tour, so income from golf will still be available. 

Granted he has a sick kid, and he and his wife donate a lot of time and money to charities, but I just don't get why he plays in so many events.

Like the Wyndham this week he retires after just 5 holes. Does this guy never consider how on numerous occasions he has deprived many an up and coming younger golfer of a spot on tour in developing their career? Seems very selfish.

Also don't understand that if the kid is really so sick with autism why does he not spend more time with him/her rather than playing golf. I mean all his other ventures must take up a ton of his time also.

1. Autism isn’t a sickness. 

2. He has earned the right to play in those events. 

3. Why do you actually spend so much energy caring so much for a trivial thing.

Els?  What's his last name?  Is he a new guy on tour?  Haven't seen him on any leaderboards this season.

Els has paid his dues, and earned the right to play when and where he chooses. For all we know he may have agreed to an appearance fee, or something similar. He is still a big draw, more so than most of those "up and coming" players. Remember, golf at the pro level is a business. 

As for having a child with "autism" (which is not a sickness) it takes a lot of family time to raise a special child. Els playing golf maybe a bit of self theraphy. A vacation of sorts. A way to relax from some of life's tough moments. 

@Aces Wild, you just might be the only one who is "annoyed" by "this guy Els". .

My wife is a Grant Director and Program Director at a school attached to the University of Miami Medical School. Her school helps a lot of autistic and Downs Syndrome children and a lot of funding for her school and many others is generated by Ernie Els's and Dan Marino's local efforts.

While I agree a pro who might be injured and quits after 5 holes probably should have allowed an alternate to have a chance, Ernie is still a big draw, which raises a ton of money for the charities golf tournaments generate.

He NEVER deserves the kind of criticism the OP's comments put forth.

I thought the PGA Tour prohibited those in their events.

I see this is not a question, but a statement. I think its true. Ernie Els deserves our respect.

Until he proves himself on tour we can justifiably become EXTREMELY annoyed with him. All show and no go.

He has an appalling attitude to the game, is a terrible parent and has done NOTHING to gain respect.

If the PGA doesn't act soon  - even fast-tracking his return to amateur status, I think there will be a groundswell of negativity towards him.

It's been a sore point for a long time. I've heard that his fellow players have had it with him up to their necks. They wonder how he even gets to play in these events.

I say "Until you've done something, get off the tour and try something else."

Golf clearly isn't his thing. Too many of these nobodies clogging up the spots of deserving youngsters.

Ernie is captain of the international President's Cup team. I would imagine he's trying to play enough to see some of the possible players on his team.
