I took a hiatus from golf for awhile. Getting back into it. Fortunately, my swing is holding up but a bit slower at 63 yrs old. 85 to 88 mph driver clubhead speed. I bought a sleeve of ProV1, TPx, Callaway Soft and a couple dozen Kirkland Signature 3 ply urethane balls. I appreciate the feel and spin of the urethane balls on full swing approaches. Need to practice more with them around the green and ignore the range balls at my practice range short game area as they are typical surlyn pinnacle range balls that tend to run on chips and pitches. Haven't been able to hit two different balls from the same spot to see how they behave differently. But, the spin on all appears good. None are backing up. But, they are stopping pretty quickly on full approach shots. All 4 seem to handle the wind pretty well. Hope to get out and do head to head comparisons soon.

May need to add the ProV1x and TP5 to the mix. Probably can't go wrong with any of them.

I mostly play the Callaway Chrome Soft these days, but I recently tried the TP5 and was very impressed with its overall performance. Probably can’t go wrong with any of the premium balls.

I suggest you look at the Snell MTB, either the Black or the X.  These play similar to the ProV1 and ProV1x, but much less expensive.

I tried the Srixon Q Star Tour yesterday.  Plays like the Kirkland 3 piece ball at a higher price.  Meh.  Liked the Bridgestone Tour B RX.  Same price as Taylormade TP5.  So, far liking the TP5 and ProV1.

Have you tried the Titleist AVX?  To me it has a great feel off the club. While I am a 13, I know a few single digits who like it.

Meh...I still don’t buy all this ball hype. It’s mostly one of those aspects ( all sports/hobbies have them) where it’s just entertainment. Most of us play golf so inconsistently from day to day or week to week we don’t really notice a difference , we just really want to because it’s another entertaining component of our sport. Good days we love that ball. Bad days...gonna try a new ball.

Except for extreme differences like a pure rock and a soft spin ball I don’t buy all the talk. Even the ball charts that were made based on a robot that’s 1000% more consistent than us shows minor differences from one premium ball to the next. Now I know this really irks the die hard ones out there who dive head first into this circus but rest easy. You have every right to enjoy the entertainment but I’m yet to believe it’s making any difference other than what you dream up. Sorry to be a Debbie Downer.

FWIW, even Titleist states that the difference in distance between all their balls (not just premium) is only something like 4 yards with a driver. So play the one that feels the best to you and in your budget.

I play Snell now because the price is great and it feels soft like the ProV1x. But I have also hit Bridgestone's, TM, Callaway's and even old Nike's on the course and they feel pretty good too.

Snell is in Mass, and I'm a homey, so I give them the business.

I’m about to turn 61.

I play a  Bridgestone B RXS.  It’s a bit longer for me than the ProV1 that I played for a LOT of years, but plays very similar around the greens.

In David's bag....

Wedges: Scratch 51-11 TNC grind, Vokey SM-5's;  56-14 F grind and 60-11 K grind

I had moved up to the Pro V1, but decided to try the Snell MTB Black. I got 5 dozen delivered to my house for just under $140. I like them and can them to bite and hold the green.

May need to try some of these direct to you balls like Snell and Vice.  The ProV1 and TP5 have worked well for me.  Yesterday, I played the TP5 and had my best round of the year.

You'll find lots of support for Snell here, including from me.  Age 63, HI 3.1 now, so I fit the demographic, and I've been playing Snell for almost 4 years now.  I'm on the fence between the MTB x and the MTB Black, but both are really good golf balls at a very reasonable price.

If you gave me two unmarked balls, I probably couldn't tell you which is a Chromesoft, ProV1, or a Vice (which I play and recommend).  Ordering 5 dozen at $25 each definitely feels better than going out and buying new ProV1s.  I also tend to have a hard time seeing a white ball against the sky from time to time so the added colors that are easy to get from them help direct my decision as well.  I've seen more people in my small area pick them up recently too, still haven't found a Snell on the course but I've found somebody else's Vice which was a shock to me personally.

    • Yea Club Rat said it. I really enjoyed the Senator and the Judge, then over to Grand National where there a couple good courses plus a fun par 3. The one I do play whenever I visit there is Ross Bridge; something about this course that is just good fun. I hope to play more of the courses in the future, but tomorrow is promised to no one, so hope is the key word. Have Fun, iSank

I couldn't find time to get to the range today.  I spent time on the indoor putting mat.  And I spent time in front of the mirror with my 7 iron. Then again later with the driver.  I also thoroughly cleaned all my clubs.
