Is there anything sweeter sounding than the whoosh-plink! of a well struck 3 wood?  I was having some fun with the camera yesterday.  When I checked out the vids after I got home, I was surprised at how satisfying the sounds of golf can be.  This three wood in the tinklining rain, echoing off the surrounding sable palms was my favorite of the bunch.  But irons with good compression, bunker shots, even putts up close have a nice "tink" off certain putters.  What are some of your favorite golf musical notes?

My favorite sound is probably the crisp "click" sound of a well struck pitch shot off a tight lie. It's especially satisfying because I tend to have a fair amount of fear about those shots - and overcoming my mental hurdles to clip a 20 yard pitch that bounces once and checks nicely is a great feeling.

Iron shot. Ball then turf.

Runner up: the sizzle a ball makes through the air.

This is the best shot from yesterday that captures all of that.  May need earbuds to hear the "sizzle".

That was my first thought too. But upon reflection, I've had a lot of crisp iron shots that sizzle off the club face before turning dead left into a dreaded hook.

The click of a pure pitch shot almost always results in a positive outcome.

The applause from your playing partners in a mid am after an amazing shot in a tough course under tournament conditions.

Only if you are already safely in the fairway!

That seems unsporting! Just birdie it and win already!

A similarly satisfying sound is the distant "click - click" of your drive on a par 5 bouncing twice down the cart path and back onto the fairway to put you within a 9 iron of the green.  This just happened to me last weekend.

I think it has to be the sound of a perfectly struck long iron for me. The impact and then the ball zipping away. Of course, I most often hear this at the range from the guy standing next to me, rather than from my own experience.

Otherwise, I quite enjoy the sound of a banana slice off the tee making solid, direct contact with a tree and rebounding right into the middle of the fairway.

You win.  Thread over.  I shall yell "Pow!",  "Boom!", and/or "Wham!" after every drive now.  Damn that was funny.

I think I might actually try this, at least to see the reaction of my golf buddies :-P  Can't decide between "Boom!" and "Pow!".

Dude's got a mean swing, though.  I'll give him that much.
