Well I'm definitely gonna subscribe to Live just to see what this is like.

For the first time ever in golf, every shot by every player will be live-streamed from a full-field tournament when THE PLAYERS Championship returns to TPC Sawgrass, March 12-15, allowing fans to follow any player in the elite field, all four rounds.  All of this revolutionary coverage will be available to PGA TOUR LIVE subscribers on either NBC Sports Gold or Amazon Prime Video Channels.

Wonder what that will cost. $60-$70 a season?

It is for the Players Championship at present - one event.

You don't have to sign up for Live to get this if you have Amazon Prime.

I'll be interested in the stats, afterwards, on which groups were streamed the most.  Now all those guys who complained about too much Tiger will get their chance to watch every one of Denny McCarty's, or Joel Dahman's shots instead of being forced to watch Tiger, Rory, Dustin, et al.

But then again, what the hell do I know?

So the PGA LIVE isn’t an extra subscription on Prime?

It is. As I understand it, you get PGA LIVE via either of two portals, NBC Sports Gold or Prime. The free golf on Amazon is Featured Holes or it's called something like that.

It sounds like I have to pay for a service I don't already have for this.  Too bad, but I'm curious to hear how it goes.

This is definitely a reaction to the Masters putting up videos of every shot on their website last year, right?

I totally forgot about that. I'll bet that the Masters interface will be superior to whatever the PGA comes up with. IBM or whomever the Masters gets to do their online stuff is generally very good.

More details:

Augusta National had video coverage of every shot from every player at the Masters this year, though it was available through a catalog of players chosen off its website. The difference at The Players is that every shot will be accessible live.

“You’ll be able to click on any group and watch that group play, and we do that for every golfer in the field,” said Luis Goicouria, the tour’s senior vice president of media. “We’re not viewing it from the perspective of who wants to watch a certain golfer. We’ve known for many years that the future of our sport absolutely involves taking all the content that is happening live and making that available to our audience. In golf, that’s a huge amount of content.”

Anderson said it could take as many as five years before the tour can develop a system where live streaming of every player in the field is available and every tournament, though it was not clear if that included the three events it has in Asia.
