The example of Roy Riegels really would be a good one for the young man to look at. He had his wrong-way run not in some high school game. It was the 1939 Rose Bowl, which his Cal team lost. Aside from that terrible mistake, Riegels was an outstanding player. It had to seem very harsh to be known as "Wrong Way" for the rest of his life. From what I've read, he was pretty sensitive about it for a long time. But, he eventually got used to it and eventually accepted it.

Years later, when the Vikings' Jim Marshall did the same thing in a game with the 49ers, Riegels sent him a note that said "Welcome to the club."

The nice thing for the kid is that it was a high school game, not the Rose Bowl. People have seen the video of course, but most people aren't going to use the kid's name on air. He'll graduate high school, go about his life's work and be fine.

      Tale of two swings.  Swing 1: Slightly outside takeaway (hands move outside of target line) only to allow trail elbow over collapsing at P4. Doesn't take much to overdo it for the trail elbow collapse to only further exaggerate. That's death. Swing 2: Hands stay slight in at takeaway for a much better trail elbow condition at P4. This is a hard sell from an instinct perspective. More focus on un-weighting and re-weighting of lead foot to unlock a bit more mobility of hips and torso. A major flaw that creeps up often is me swinging flat footed and becoming overly armsy-collapsy as a result. Got reminded of this the hard way during my 2nd round match for club net championship. Was cruising along 2up until I made the turn. Then lost the swing for next five holes. Andy was playing good enough to capitalize. By the time I regained my swing on 16th, it was too late. Even Andy was like "That was a gift". Obviously that stings because have played well enough lately. Should have closed him out of the game comfortably with a few holes to spare. Shoulda woulda coulda. Tough lesson. Damn. P.S. I know the swings look very similar but trust me there is a difference.
